The Animal World Lyrics
Of the ancient films
Of the days of old
Joy to the world
Joy to the world
Hey, guys and girls
It's the animal world
Of the ancient films
Of the days of old
Joy to the world
Joy to the world
Hey, guys and girls
It's the animal world
Of the ancient films
Of the days of old
Joy to the world
Joy to the world
Hey, guys and girls
It's the animal world
Of the ancient films
Of the days of old
Joy to the world (joy to the world)
Joy to the world
Hey, boys and girls
It's the animal world
Joy to the world
Hey, guys and girls
It's the animal

Heh. No comments yet. But really, who knows what they were trying to say with this one? FWIW, let me add that this is one of their (many) songs that send shivers down the proverbial spine. Whenever it comes up, it conjures in my head images of old black-and-white films, and of an old run-down amusement park filled with life-sized realistic animal representations.
Oh, and I am the only one that, upon first hearing this song, thought the lyrics went "Hey guys and girls, it's the end of the world"?

I agree with you frijolito, i cant help myself hearing "it's the end of the world"..
Anyway, nice song, very nice song.. The more i listen to the whole album, the more i love it. I thought there could not be any better album than the sophtware slump, and i was wrong.

I guess there's an old movie called "The Animal World" about dinosaurs. And the end of the song has dinosaur/animal sounds. I wouldn't be surprised of Jason grew up watching it, or is at least a fan of the ancient films of the days of old.
Maybe the other meaning of the song is the general theme of death/ending? Metaphorically of how cats go away to die, and how the band was ending. And maybe how earth is dying, he sings "joy to the world" in kind of an ironic depressed way, since we're killing our planet. And maybe it'll start over with another age of dinosaurs, or maybe we'll just be history/extinct like the dinosaurs? Something to think about :/
Any ideas on what the "8... 9..." at the beginning and the "Easy fella" at the end mean? I think of humans crash-landing in a land of dinosaurs, like that Twilight Zone episode? The whole sound going throughout the song is just like a jetliner going down. They countdown for liftoff? Then crash and see a dangerous jurassic animal and say "Easy fella" ?
