This is a great song. Don't really have a possible meaning for it right now. Its a good song though.
It seems pretty clear to me. There comes a time in every man's life when he asks "What have I been doing with my life? What have I done? Where am I going from here?"
"Are You ready to know just who I am? "Do you think You can make me a better man? "Crack me open? Expose me to Your ways?"
This may be me projecting my own experiences, but I believe the song is about someone who has attempted suicide and is now trying to start over and make things work.
As for the second verse it sounds like the singer was trying to make his life work solely to spare someone else the pain of losing him, and that reason for living isn’t giving him what he need to go on.
“Yet everyday I live for you, still I'm not alive”
With this line it even makes it sound like he’s wondering if the people in his life want him around.
“Give me a sign, one reason that I should stay”
Finally, I see the third verse as him not believing that anyone can understand him (or would even want to understand him) or make a difference in his life, so why try? “Are you ready to know just who I am?” And I see the last line of the third verse as him trying to push others away.
It's about struggling with religion...
it's been a hard life, taken a knock that's been undeniable and it's hurt. BAD. relationship breakdown, possibly? anywho, it's taking it all in stride and starting again in your own time. not rebounding or losing yourself to drink and other assorted numbness. still maintaining his humour through it all and doing it his own way. ^_^ that's Sully, for you! he doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks.
Trinity_tragedy I feel your wrong. As he grew from the start of Godsmack til now how could you come out with lyrics like this and not give a f!?k what anyone thinks. I believe he does but it's been a struggle to deal with inside. I'd give anything to not know what that feels like. SULLY YOUR MY NUMBER ONE!! Sad I know
"Been through the skin of a dragon a thousand times". There songs come from life experiences. Its about the struggle with meth maybe. It may just be me but its simple to understand when you've fought the addiction and know what the words chasing the dragon means. Im not saying Sully had that issue but i watched an interview with him and he was asked where does his lyrics come from. His responce was relationships and life experiences. A time in my life i am fighting addiction myself and feel alone with no meaning to live. Wanting desperately to feel a connection his lyrics feel all to real for me. His lyrics have given me an understanding ive never had before. Its given me the want to and strength to battle my own. If there is going to be anything physical on this earth that has given me something to save myself from temptation its his lyrics. Ive picked through every song to find meaning with some type of connection to them and i see how he has grown as an individual. I love you Sully. You the man!
