I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). This song is sad and beautiful and very spot on one of my past relationships. My favourite part is the chorus - 'First kiss and the first time that I felt connected to anything. The weight of water, the way you taught me to look past everything I had ever learned' - someone who means so much to you and has truly changed the way you look at life. And then 'The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love' I think this refers to the last conversation you have with someone before you tell them something that completely destroys what you have. Being told by them that they love you only to break it. Knowing that you could love them 'more than anyone else could' and simultaneously knowing that it's over, that you could spend the whole of your life trying to make up for something but essentially it's just a fantasy now. Its about being greatful for someone who has changed your life for the better - he knows it finished, but still wishes with all his heart that he could make it go on forever. That is my interpretation anyway but perhaps I am just trying to make it fit into my life like I do too many songs!
