In the dokkoise house
With face covered,
Leaving open the door.

That night in muddy water
The blossom unfolds as
A beautiful flower.

Hana no iro wa
Utsuri ni keri na

Translation of Japanese:
The color of the flower
has already faded away.

O hana.

Beautiful song. thanks for the japanese translation. Anyone know who (and in what context) the flower is supposed to represent?

Matt talked on thier forum about how this is based on a folk song that the farmers would sing. Check out more at their website.

This song is actually a poem found in collection of poems called Japanese Peasant Songs. Anathallo did a beautiful job with it, it's my favorite off Floating World.

according to my translation of "the tale of genji", hana is a more direct translation to the blossom of a cherry tree.

With Face Covered This song refers to the old village custom of a young man visiting a young woman in her room at night, a clandestine meeting for which the lover always covers his face with a towel as a disguise. Thus any stray person would not recognize who is visiting the girl; furthermore, if he is repulsed the towel "saves" his face so that if he meets the girl next day both may act as though nothing had happened. (Cf. also Song 12.) 38 Dokkoise no se Do ya ni hdkamuri Nuchya t5 akete Iru-wai na The dokkoise house: With face covered,^^ You leaving open The door. 3.us.archive.org/stream/japanesepeasants38embr/…
