Last night your shadow fell upon my lonely room
I touched your golden hair and tasted your perfume
Your eyes were filled with love the way they used to be
Your gentle hand reached out to comfort me
Then came the dawn
And you were gone
You were gone, gone, gone

I had too much to dream last night
Too much to dream
I'm not ready to face the light
I had too much to dream
Last night
Last night

The room was empty as I staggered from my bed
I could not bear the image racing through my head
You were so real that I could feel your eagerness
And when you raised your lips for me to kiss
Came the dawn
And you were gone
You were gone, gone, gone

I had too much to dream last night
Too much to dream
I'm not ready to face the light
I had too much to dream
Last night
Last night

I had too much to dream last night
Too much to dream
I'm not ready to face the light
I had too much to dream
Last night
Last night

Oh, too much to dream
Oh, too much to dream
Too much to dream last night
Oh, too much to dream
Oh, too much to dream
Oh, too much to dream

Guy loses girl, guy still loves girl, guy dreams of still having girl, guy wakes up to find guy does NOT still have girl, guy becomes extremely depressed.

Not every song from the 60's was about LSD.

When I was younger I heard the original song was "I Had Too Much To Drink Last Night" and of course they changed it ....and got it on the air....

Hey I was 10 years old at the time...What can I say.

This song is from my era. It is another Vietnam song. The guy doesn't want to face waking up again in country without the girl he loves! (As told by the writer in an interview, though I can't find it on the net right now!) It was based on a letter from a friend who was in country. The friend came home in white satin as the saying went then! (Dead) So it's a tribute to yet another "Knight in White Satin"! It's not quite as trivial as just a guy and girl broke up and now he regrets it. They never broke up, he was stolen from her by the war! Vets get it, others never will! Scotty

"Guy" didn' lose girl. The guy was in Vietnam and could not bear awakening from the dreams of the girl he loves and still loves him (as far as he knows). The writer said it was from a letter he got from a buddy tyhat was in country who wanted reasured that the girl still loved and missed him since he'd had no letters in weeks from her. This buddy then came home in satin as was said in that day, so his friend never got to write him back.
(See Knights in White Satin") So only vets serving in actual war will ever understand all the meaning in "I had too much to Dream"! Scotty

WHAT?! WHO SAID THIS WAS A DRUG SONG? Damned punks always claiming a song is about drugs. I mean, it's just about a guy, um, who, uh, well, you know, ... Like, the whole thing is, everyone says drugs will mess with your mind, and you'll jump off buildings, and... Uh, the whole social dynamic is like, um,...

    What was the question?

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
