Where I would have been with a different plan
Like the tide upon the sand
It washed away from me
Opportunities to where I stand

Sometimes I feel so empty handed
Were not the only ones
(were not the only ones)
Who will understand me

ooooh oooh ooooh
It’s such a sacrifice inside ya ya
ooooh oooh ooooh
Somebody clear these stormy skies ya
ooooh oooh ooooh
It’s such a sacrifice inside ya ya
ooooh oooh ooooh
Somebody clear these stormy skies

We’ll never ever loose sight of our goals
Won’t let go
And even tough were a little bit older
The truth is colder

Got to work….got to make that money
I hope its something
Cause were not the only ones
Who can make this happen

ooooh oooh ooooh
It’s such a sacrifice inside ya ya
ooooh oooh ooooh
Somebody clear these stormy skies ya
ooooh oooh ooooh
It’s such a sacrifice inside ya ya
ooooh oooh ooooh
Somebody clear these stormy skies

The current is so strong
And I can’t fight no more
And how I long to be
on that stable shore

If we could only step outside the shade
And in the games we play
The threat of uncertainty
(the threat of uncertainty)
Has carried me out to sea

ooooh oooh ooooh
It’s such a sacrifice inside ya ya
ooooh oooh ooooh
Somebody clear these stormy skies ya
ooooh oooh ooooh
It’s such a sacrifice inside ya ya
ooooh oooh ooooh
Somebody clear these stormy skies

I think It's about making the sacrifice or risk of following your dream, no matter how uncertain it is. Never lose sight of what truly makes you happy and go for it. I love The Expendables.

It sounds like the current is the push of conformity that leads them to a 'stable shore' where they live to just work. They made the sacrifice to stray from the shore into 'an uncertain ocean' where they seek their goals. When they ask somebody to clear the stormy skies it seems to be a metaphor to say someone help them see the right choice, to follow conformity or follow their dreams, either way there is a sacrifice.

    My Interpretation
I think this song could also be about the uncertainty of love. The singer expresses how things could have different, for better or for worse, had he not chosen the person that he had. When he sings about his sacrifice, he sings about his willful surrender of his singularity in order to hopefully become happier. However, the "threat of uncertainty" is that things might not always go as planned, and like most relationships, it is indefinite and can become unstable without a moment's notice, and this predictable shock is what "carries him out to sea". The "Sacrifice inside" is the singer's acceptance of that instability in order to hopefully find happiness in his life, even if it becomes temporary.

    Song Meaning
what they're talking about is how he never thought he'd be where he's today. His life took unexpected turns do to bad things that just happen in life but he never lost sight of his goals. the stable shores part is about he wishes life would be mellow all the time, no problems and life gets too hard and you just feel like you want to quit because the problems in life are too hard, the currrent is strong. i love this song so much. the lyrics have so much powerful and meanings are deep. the music is like an orgasm to my ears. their guitar sound is unlike anything i've ever heard!

    My Interpretation
i believe the first line "where would have i been with a different plan", he's not talking about the choices he has made in his life, but the plan that we all have to follow (go to school, get a job), to conform to the way things are. this is what i believe this whole song is about. and the song is asking why does it have to be this way? "sometimes i feel so empty handed/we're not the only ones" (who feel this way). "got to work...got to make that money, i hope it's something...." I hope all this work leads to something, which we all know it doesn't. We work for most our entire lives: it's not living. "The current is so strong. And I can’t fight no more. And how I long to be on that stable shore." he doesn't want to follow this plan that was drawn out for him, a plan he HAS to follow but does not want to; he can see no other answer other than lose every thing he has already worked for. the song, to me, is about how we have to Sacrifice our own lives to build a "life", a life that others say is the right way.
