I couldn't see
I couldn't hear
Shut me off when you were near
Like a cloud
A dusty mirror
Disappear, you disappear

All of a sudden
All alone
I'm calling out
I'm calling love's gonna let me know
Like the day you took me home
We counted every minute left to go
My love's gonna let you know

Time without you drags me down
It all feels right with you around
It all feels light with you around
Like that night we hit the ground
And all the lightning sends a chill
Can't forget about you still
All of a sudden all alone
I'm calling out
I'm calling

Love's gonna let me know
Like the day you took me home
We counted every minute left to go
My love's gonna let you know

Calling love's gonna let me know
Like the day you took me home
We counted every minute left to go
My love's gonna let you know

I'm calling out I'm calling
I'm calling out I'm calling
I'm calling out I'm calling
I'm calling out I'm calling
I'm calling out I'm calling out

General CommentI think that "We counted every minute left to go" doesn't neccessarily mean counting until something huge like marriage or a break up. But I think it's counting down to something simpler like the end of the date (or the end of the day together, you know. I really don't think this song is just exclusive to romantic relationships). Like they know that they'd have to be separated at the end of the day ("Like the day you took me home") but they still don't want it to end, so they'll count it down and, you know, make the most of it and have fun.

It's just such a cute song. Really beach-y too.

General CommentI think the meaning is quite obvious: it's a love song and I would think that Karen O is singing about how she loves this one person and how he's no longer there, and the lyrics in the song could explain the rest. This is a love song that I actually like and it's wonderful. I love the first part, I really liked the figurative language:

    I couldn't see
    I couldn't hear
Shut me off when you were near
    Like a cloud
    A dusty mirror
    Disappear, you disappear

Although there's one part I don't quite understand: "We counted every minute left to go"
They counted every minute... 'til they get married? I don't have a clue.

General Commentdavidd: I interpret "We counted every minute left to go" as being them counting down the to end of the relationship. Maybe they both knew it was only a matter of time before it ended, so all they could do was make the most of it.

General CommentI personally took the lyric as they were counting down the time left until he took her home...

General CommentI think this is a song about falling in love with a person you she had a one night stand with. It keeps referring to one night " Like the day you took me home" and "like the night we hit the ground". It seems like he left her abruptly "Can't for get about you still, all the sudden all alone, I'm Calling out I'm calling" but she knew it was coming "we counted every minute left to go"
thats what I think when I hear the song. this is my favorite yeah yeah yeahs song.

General CommentThis might not be a lyrically sweet song, but its so innocent and hypnotic musically. I think she's sort of saying that her love is obviously there and if the guy can see it, then he'll know he can tell her if he feels the same way too.
It sounds like she has a lot more feelings than he does though.

Karen O sounds sublime on this song. As much as i love it when she screams and yelps and spits beer on everyone, this is a beautiful side of things.
