Im David Makalaster
Your 10 O'clock newscaster
My lips are moving faster
Than my mind can comprehend
I'm David Makalaster
Your 10 O'clock newscaster
Some call me Mr. mealy-mouth
But think of me as friend

If you believe the things I tell you
I've a bridge or two to sell you
And since I've cut my intake down my liver's on the mend

'Cause I am David Makalaster, your 10 O'clock newscaster, good evening and here's what's new

Isn't it awefully nice
To live in a world
where everything's exactly how it seems?
We live in a world
where all you have to do is sit around and dream
About the things that make you happy
about the things that make you smile
Sit back, relax, apathy's back in style

Im David Makalaster
Your 10 O'clock newscaster
And I verbally execute
Every word I say
I'm David Makalaster
Your 10 O'clock newscaster
Only six percent of America
Thinks that I am gay

If you believe the things I tell you
I've a bridge or two to sell you
And if you see the spider
Don't spoil your curds and whey

THe song is verbal irnoy, they are saying what nirvana would be like, what the world should be like; I personaly think its a great introduction into the dream-like world of purple onin. THe true world is described in the sequal on the album, "David Makalaster II" where the brutal reality is revieled in way that reminds me of Floyd's "In the Flesh". all three are great songs, but only one is fun to visit t.h.c. land while listening to...

Completely agree, GreenAndy. but one thing, I think there actually was a guy named david Makalaster. anybody know the story behind that? Life like this would be really boring, but whatever.

I might be wrong, but this song seems to be about apathy and media propaganda. the newscaster is giving you the info about how everything in the world is happy, "all you have to do is sit and dream." Its about the news telling you everything is ok when in reality they are just protecting their interests. "sit back, relax, apathy's back in style"

This version of the song is society's illusion, the second version is exaggerated reality. Neither of them are real just 2 extremes.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
