my attention is cashed so don't
talk to me anymore be the
subject terrifying or
important or pure
my cigarettes are spent so don't
expect productivity be the
matter just or crucial or
personal or reactive
my mind is a box and you put things in and you
take things out and it's empty
my mind is a box and you gut it then and you
flatten it and you leave me blank and the
world is big my body's small my
body's short the world is tall

so fill me up with chemicals or
other people's words
i shout it from this pretty hole in
modes and fifths and thirds
my mind is a box
my mind is a lie
my mind

my mind is a line running down my spine
like a vine of green and psychedelic
iridescent rainbows
my body is built like a function of mechanics
like a robot when he gives himself his
own petty instructions
my mind is a box and you put things in and you
take things out and it's empty
my mind is a box and you gut it then and you
flatten it and you leave me blank and the
world is big my body's small my
body's short the world is tall

so fill me up with chemicals or
other people's words
i shout it from this pretty hole in
modes and fifths and thirds
i steep up an infusion there and
pour it on these keys
i'm influenced so easily so
influence me please
just
fill me up with chemicals or
other people's words
i shout it from this pretty hole in
modes and fifths and thirds
i steep up an infusion there and
pour it on these keys
i'm influenced so easily so
influence me please
i'm influenced so easily so
influence me please

To me, this song is about craving opinions and passions, but being unable to feel anything- being empty, basically.

She wants someone to influence her- which is so easy to do because she doesn't have any natural inclinations- because she wants so badly to feel something. She herself is numb; life just passes over her, emotions break around her body, like water in a stream encountering a rock and splitting and passing to the sides. She can see the massive amounts of emotion breaking and swelling all around her, in the hearts and minds and actions of the people around her, but she simply cannot feel anything. This song is a testament to her desperation, and her willingness to do whatever it takes to feel anything at all.

"My attention is cashed so don't talk to me anymore, be the subject terrifying or important or pure". I think this statement is her mindset when she is simply too weary to try anymore. It's her when she has tried every moment of every day to feel something, to be moved to some passion, and has failed. She's saying not to speak to her with evidence of your perspective- so clearly brimming with emotion- evident in your voice. She's weary of seeing and being able to understand your emotion without ever being inspired to feel it.

"My body is built like a function of mechanics, like a robot when he gives himself his own petty instructions." She's telling herself to feel, she's going through the motions, she's making herself as open to passion as possible, but she's empty. The mechanics are all there, the actions all completed, but she doesn't feel anything. She feels like a machine, except that she can see the emotion and understand it; imagine the torment of glimpsing paradise through a barrier you can't seem to break.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
