Actually, now that I think about it, the song seems to suggest that these guys have been burned in recent romantic relationships, and are soothing themselves with the pursuit of commitment-free sex. Thus they console themselves "we're back where we belong", on the singles scene.

i think this song is just about doing things your own way.
fell in love with it the first time i heard it, although i think the epic version is a whole lot better.
