Tattoo'd Lady Lyrics
Bearded baby,
They're my family.
Something told me, where,
I could always be.
Wish for pennies,
If we had any.
You'd meet me down,
At the shooting gallery.
Fair ground baby.
Wonder what made me,
Fall for the pearly queen.
Under canvas roof,
As I roamed from town to town.
When I say I got no schoolin',
Never like the class bell sound.
I hear the fairground band,
Sounding good as they can be.
But if you look around,
Tomorrow we'll be gone by dawn.
Alright...
The fire eater is a real fine sight to see,
Yeah he's a death cheater,
Some kind of central heater,
Be sure to save a seat for me.
She's no baby,
The law came,
And tried to close her sideshow down.
But soon she had the D.A. cheering,
The police chief wearing,
Her garter for a crown.
Under canvas roof,
As I roamed from town to town.
When I say I got no schoolin',
Never like the school bell sound.
I hear the fairground band,
Sounding good as they can be.
But if you look around,
Tomorrow we'll be gone by dawn.
Yeahh...
Bearded baby,
They're my family.
Something told me, where,
I could always be.
Wish for pennies,
If we had any.
You'd meet me down,
At the shooting gallery.
Tattoo'd lady........

Why the hell does Rory have so few comments? This song is awesome and so are most of his others. As for the meaning to it, I think it's pretty obvious; he likes a tattoo'd lady who's always there for him, and he works at the fair.
@ledzeppelin1988 Generally speaking, the problem is that this should be a site for song meanings and analysis. Too many people here have nothing to say but they feel they need to comment "yeah, great song, rockn roll rock roll" or some autobiographical nonsense.

But why Rory's songs have few good analysis, I'm not sure. Basically this song quite literally tells about fairgrounds and travelling from town to town with some circus group.

For me it is a song about the circle and fair people and someone who share something with them with references to the Tatooed lady, the bearded lady, the fire eater, going from town fair to town fair in caravan.

Surprised about the completely different and probably wrong interpretations...sorry
He speaks about beer for sure !!! "Tattoo'd lady" because of the brand on the glass. Bearded as every respectable beer should have a beard and pearled because when you serve it at the perfect temperature it pearls on the glass. He is Irish u know ? I'll bet a horse on it that he often asked a bearded lady at the pub and that he received a beer. It also makes sense when he speaks that it was his home while he lived from town to town.

Great song for dancing! I danced a thousand miles to it in the early 70's!
