Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secured Lyrics
If not we'll have to have two
You're coming up our end aren't you
I'll get one with you
He wouldn't let us have six in
Especially not with the food
He could have just told us no though
He didn't have to be rude
She talked to me at the bar
How come it's already two pound fifty?
We've only gone about a yard
Didn't you see she were gorgeous
She were beyond belief
But this lad at the side drinking his Smirnoff Ice
Came and paid for her tropical reef
And I didn't want to leave
I said it's High Green mate
Via Hillsborough please
Up near that taxi rank
Oh no you woulda missed it,
Think it were when you went to the bank
These two lads squaring up proper shouting
About who was next in the queue
The kind of thing that would seem so silly
But not when they've both had a few
You shouldn't get so annoyed
You're acting like a silly little boy
And they wanted to be men
And do some fighting in the street
(They said) no surrender
No chance of retreat

teeth grind is spot on. it's basically about gettin a taxi home from bein out in town. he talks about askin if the driver will let them have six people in a taxi meant for five passengers. if he doesn't let them, they six of them will have to divide into two taxis. then he talks about seein the girl in a green dress. "sitting going backwards" has a double meaning. in a literal sense, he is sat in a drop down seat, so is travelling backwards, and that he doesn't want to leave (going backwards is perceived as going somewhere you don't want to go). about the "it's high green mate, via hillsborough, please": he is tellin the driver where to go. of the arctic monkeys, andy lives in hillsborough, and alex, jamie, and matt live in high green. both are places in sheffield. then he talks about seein the fight. again, they are just talking about the night, as they were about the girl. then they consider trying to get out of the cab without paying ("jump it"). they went for it, but the doors were "secured", as anyone who's been in a black cab will understand. there is a red light which indicates whether the doors are locked or not.

Taking a taxi after a night out and trying to follow a girl that he saw in the bar but could not talk to; ultimately he misses her even though he tries to "jump" taxis to follow her.

the "have six in" means fitting six people in the taxi. He's basically asking the driver if they can fit six people in the taxi.

The bassline to this song is immense!

A night out in Sheffield.

There's never much guessing in what the Monkeys-songs are about, cause it's always more than obvious :) This one's about taking a taxi after a night out, and, as always, the lyrics are brilliant.
"How come it's already two pound fifty We've only gone about a yard"

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
^Average AM fan.

jumping a taxi means to not pay

This song seems to be about a night out, and getting in a taxi following a bird!

They're pilling outta the Ledders and into a taxi!!!
