This is quite possibly the best song ever written about Sufjan Stevens having an existential crisis in the Great Godfrey Maze. Bravo!

"The Great Godfrey Maze" is, well, a maze built in a local cornfield each year. Godfrey is a small town in Madison County, Illinois, just north of Alton.

dont call sufjan random. what i love about all his music, especially this album, is its personality. he obviously didnt just set out to be random. it has to do with him, and we happen to listen. why do you listen if its random?

I LISTEN BECAUSE WHEN I DO, I FEEL LOVE, AND ITS ALMOST LIKE SENDING MY LOVE TO SUFJAN THROUGH MY SPEAKERS

Actually, if you're out there Sufjan, can you let us know what you were talking about and lead us out of the dark? so many of us are in the dark...

my best guess at what sufjan is trying to do with this song is explain the times when he is confused about his purpose in the world. the drones in this song are chaotic and are a good representation of what would be going through someone's head if they're having an existential crisis, which means that for a short moment it feels like life has no purpose or meaning. we all know that sufjan is a very religious person, so this would be very scary and unnerving to someone of great faith.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
