This song is about a woman who is in love with a man who is non-commital. She continually tries to stay in a relationship that is going nowhere hoping it will change, but keeps ending right back up where she started. But she can't let it go because there's something in her that keeps her hanging onto him because she's so damn curious to know what it would be like to truly be with him without wondering where she stands. He ignores her and goes off and does things she would like to do with him. She doesn't know his family. She wants to know them because through knowing them, she may get to know him better and what makes him tick. "Portaits of your loved ones are more than what you see. All the elements they capture are more to you than me". She wants to take the relationship to the next level, but she can't see how they can do it because he'll make it so difficult. "There's a forest to cut through with thorns and vines. There is no reason to try." But she wavers because at the end she syas there are so many unanswered questions that I hold onto, like you. That lyric isn't here, but it is in the song at the very end. It's a beautiful song about being more crazy about someone than they are you.

she cannot trust and can't let go because of the pain she has endured. theres always a reason for someones being the way they are- good or bad. some people naturally trust more than others but ones that can't allow their soul to feel isn't just how they are. its because they've been hurt. a soul can't live without love. and thats what she says in her few songs.

I see a different take on this song. Maybe it's because it reminds me of something I went through.

It could be about a girl who has a guy friend who may be more but he doesnt put her first and he just confuses her. She just wants to know where she stands .

In those lines, she has tried to psychoanalyze everything but then thinks that maybe they weren't meant to be more than friends after all. Maybe the people she has been ignoring are the people that deserve a chance. Letting go of him just isn't working for her. He's her biggest unanswered question.

I kinda see something different in this song. as a whole humans are curious to find whats underneath the visible spectrum. as when she says "a different dimension we've yet to define". She is stating her vulnerability of being a human in most of the song. i think most humans are curious in many different dimensions. The "like you" lyric does sound like shes talking to someone specific but it doesn't mean its a significant other. either way. holly brook is great!!!!! she sure knows how to write great music.

personally, i've been going through a different situation, where i have been talking to someone who goes to school really far away, and because of the distance, we've just been talking online and on the phone, so i have a completely different meaning to this song, i see it as if at first, they weren't really close, like they knew of each other, but didn't KNOW each other, they started talking and suddenly, he begins to ignore her, which is why she would say she ends up back at the start and she hears from his friends about how his family life is hard,

when people think of portraits, they think of perfect families, i mean, many messed up families usually don't get professional portraits done. 'family pictures' would be the words used for that. when i look at a family portrait, i see smiles, and happiness, and togetherness, but what he may see is all the deciet and lies that everyone is showing. all of their smiles are fake, and upsetting to him.

like some of you have said, people are always curious about what makes others behave the way that they do, and family life has a huge effect on most peoples behaviors. especially when silence comes into play. it seems as if she's curious to know what is going through his head, but she can't seem to get in it also seems as if shes not sure if there are signs out there that she is missing, by signs i mean whether or not she's being ignored purposely, or if he's trying to tell her things but she just isn't realizing it. I know i have been through that before, and then you think you're over-analyzing the situation.
