Told you I felt lucky with my humble breasts
Well, I don't
Said that I was sure the world was gonna change
Well, I'm not
Before I didn't give a damn 'bout what they say
But I do
Promised that I'll never-ever lie to you

So you can't hide
Taking the make-up off my face
Before I forget my own features

I'm not here to let you down
But the costume makes the clown
It's just lashing out on me, don't be so hard
Don't be so hard on this
It's your turn now
To cheat on me

Promises I made to you went down the sink
Really hope I haven't harmed your self-esteem
I'm not a virgin but I'm not the whore you think
And I don't always smell like strawberries and cream

So you can hide
I'm taking the make-up off my face
Before I forget who I am now

'Cause I'm not here to let you down
But the costume makes the clown
It's just life's anatomy, don't be so hard
Don't be so hard on this
It's your turn now, turn now

I'm not here to let you down
But the costume makes the clown
It's just life's anatomy, don't be so hard
Don't be so hard on this
It's your turn now, your turn now

So don't shit on me

This song talk about Shakira as a mature individual who no longer want to be hidden by an attempt to maintain an image. The opening lyrics show Shakira's confession many of her untold secrets, with the promise she will stay honest. The next lines in which she says the costume makes the clown basically says that the glamour and image she presents isn't who she was, she then begs that people will be understading and goes on to say "its your turn now to cheat on me" implying that by hiding her true nature she has in a way cheated on whoever she is doing the confession and she is accepting of the fact that there might be repercussions. The rest of the song just continue the message that she is willing to open up and show her true nature while tyring to make others understand that is is human nature to want to hide who you really are from time to time. Again Shakira succeeds to write an execellent song about human nature and not just superficial subjects as many other artist tend to do.

I have always really enjoyed her round-about way of getting to the point in her song... You can always tell what she is talking about, but she gives examples and uses a much more figurative language than just saying "I'm not perfect, and I feel bad if I made you think I was, so it's okay if you want to put up a front, too, I guess." It seems like a few of the words are not right, though.

"So look at how I'm taking the make-up off my face"

Nothing that changes the meaning of the song very much, though.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Cajun Girl

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
