People get ready there's a train a comin',
You don't need a ticket,
Climb on board.
Train arrive
Sixteen coaches long.
Train arrive
Sixteen coaches long.
Well that mean old train,
Took my baby,
He's gone.

Train, train
Coming 'round the bend.
Train, train
Coming 'round the bend.
Yeah that mean old evil train
Took my one and only friend.

Train, train
Coming down the line.
Train, train
Coming down the line.
Well that mean old rotten train
Took the only friend of mine.

Train, train
Coming down the track.
Train, train
Coming down the track.
Yeah he took my baby
And he never bring her back, alright.

Away, away, away,
Away in India.
Away, away, away,
Away in India.

Well I woke up this morning got the crossroads on my mind,
Well I woke up this morning got the crossroads on my mind,
Don't know what's going to be, everything will work out fine,
Well I woke up this morning got nothing on my mind.
Don't know what's going to be, everything will work out fine,
Well I woke up this morning got the H-bomb on my mind.
Well I woke up this morning got the H-bomb on my mind.
Everything, everything will work out fine, yeah.

Well I woke up this morning got the crossroads on my mind,
Well I woke up this morning got the crossroads on my mind,
Don't know what's going to be, everything, everything, everything, everything gonna work out fine.

Train, train
Come and gone.
Took my baby,
Took my baby,
Took my love
Away...

Well I woke up this morning, yeah.
Nothing on my mind.

    My Interpretation

Jim's homage to some old blues cats no doubt. The early ones use to travel the country by jumping on freight trains.

Have you ever thought that this song is about deportation? "You don't need a ticket"

"Well that mean old train, Took my baby, He's gone."

    My Interpretation

I absolutely adore this song. It's so mysterious and soulful. I always believed that the black train is death, you don't need a ticket for that clearly. Then mentioning the crossroads is like choosing the path you can take to death and destruction (suicide/drug addiction) He took my baby, and he never bring her back/ took my baby he's gone. Didn't a woman have an abortion with his child? Later in the song away in India it's like he had an awakening or understanding to choose and be ok with the results. That's why he woke up with no problems on his mind, he accepted death and the choices he made including the outcome, and everything will work out fine either way :-).

Lyrics appear to be cribbed from some classic songs, People Get Ready, Mystery Train, etc, I have never heard this! I’m going to though

The Doors’ tribute to the greatest Rock N’ Roll song ever recorded, this song, as recorded by Elvis at Sun Studios in Memphis (Written by Junior Parker), along with Maybelline, Tutti Frutti, That’ll Be The Day, Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On, laid the foundation for all future Rock n Roll.

The slap-back echo comes through on Elvis’ Mystery Train loud and clear. Many artists copied it. Scotty Moore is the guitarist, ridiculously original playing.

Anyway, other than the RnR connection, the fact that MT is about DEATH probably helped spur Jim’s interest in doing this.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
