When I get where I'm going
On the far side of the sky
The first thing that I'm gonna do
Is spread my wings and fly
I'm gonna land beside a lion
And run my fingers through his mane
Or I might find out what it's like
To ride a drop of rain

Yeah, when I get where I'm going
Well, there'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah, when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here

I'm gonna walk with my grandaddy
And he'll match me step for step
And I'll tell him how I've missed him
Every minute since he left
And then I'll hug his neck

Yeah, when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah, when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here

So much pain and so much darkness
In this world we stumble through
All these questions I can't answer
And so much work to do

But when I get where I'm going
And I see my Maker's face
I'll stand forever in the light
Of His amazing grace

Yeah, when I get where I'm going
Oh, when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
Hallelujah
I will love and have no fear
(Ah-woo) when I get where I'm going
Yeah, when I get where I'm going

General CommentThis, to me, is kind of a good poem, yet still abstract. I don't doubt the emotional impact of this song. I cry almost every time I hear it, because it renews the faith in me that God is going to take care of me when I leave this earth. I could almost say I relate to the grandfather verse, but I did not have a relationship with my grandfather before he died, unfortunately. This is definitely an emotional piece, and one of the best confrontational pieces I've seen so far. Experiencing the death of a loved one is a very psychological experience, and pieces like this one effectively confront the part of you that wants to hide all that fear, anger, depression, or what have you, inside. Poetry confronting death is some of the most emotional work I've written and read.

General CommentEverytime I hear this song I think of my dad, even though we don't get along this is him to a tee. He has struggled alot of hardships in his life. He lost all 3 of his brothers before he turned 50. Both his parents and wife died in the same year yet he still continues on day by day. He has a lot of deamons and carries an immense amount of pain and regret on his shoulders for all of his should have's and if's. Whenever anyone asks him about how he makes it through it all he just says that the good lord blessed him with what he did have when he could have never given him any of it at all and that while he may have to suffer for some years to come right now he'll spend an eternity in bliss when he goes home to see them all again. When I hear this song it makes me cry, especially the part

I'm gonna walk with my grand daddy
And he'll match me step for step
And I'll tell him how I missed him
    Every minute since he left
    Then I'll hug his neck

he always called his dad granddaddy (the whole family did) and I know how much his dad meant to him and how much he still misses him to this day. This song just leaves me speechless.

General CommentMy brother died on April 28, 2006 (last year) in a terrible car accident. This song reminds me of the peace he has now - no more suffering, no more pain.
"But when I get where I'm going And I see my maker's face - I'll stand FOREVER in the light
Of his amazing grace, Yeah when I get where I'm going - There'll be only happy tears - Hallelujah -
I will love and have no fear... When I get where I'm going, Yeah when I get where I'm going

God bless you, Josh. I miss you - but I know I'll see you again someday...and when I do, I will hold you in my arms and give you one big heavenly hug :) Hugs to you from down here, little brother. Hugs.

General CommentWhen I listen to this song my emotions get all jumbled up, and I'm not sure whether I should cry tears of joy or sadness. The song makes mr happy and sad at the same time, and either way, I always end up shedding a few tears.
