Baby!
You don't wanna make me cry
Or I will fill you with the emptiness inside.

Okay! Alright!

Baby!
You don't wanna say goodbye
Or I will soak you in this rich formaldehyde.

Cause you're beautiful tonight
And the stars are burning bright.
And I give this curse to you
Like there is nothing else to do.

So let the purple sky explode.
Let it shower us with toads.
Let the scarlet river flood,
So it can drown us all in blood.

I just hope you don't,
Hope you don't.

It's funny,
How crazy you make me feel sometimes.
I'm so broken
I can barely even rhyme.

Okay! Alright!

Honey!
It's crazy that you take up all my time
Got me sippin' at a gross amount of wine.

But you're beautiful tonight
And the stars are burning bright.
And I give this curse to you
Like there's nothing else to do.

So let the purple sky explode.
Let it shower us with toads.
Let the scarlet river flood,
Let it drown us all in blood.

Tonight, I guess, I'm human.
So thank you for fighting
And havin' sex with me.

Tonight, I guess, I'm human.
So thank you for fighting
And havin' sex with me.

Oh!

This song is not about passover lol... Max, doesn't right songs about holidays, c'mon.

I think that it's about him being in love with a girl who he thinks is going to leave him. And he threatens her that he'll make her feel just as empty as him. Or in the latter verse, kill her and preserve her(which I'm sure is just him taking it too far like he always does)

I don't know what purple skies or toads represent, maybe he's just making references to the plague, especially about the scarlet river and everything. And by saying all he is saying that everyone goes through these things.

The last part is where everything gets thrown off, but my best guess is that she was playing hard to get the whole time and making him miserable, but now she has had sex with him and completely given in to him. So he's probably over her and thus not miserable anymore, but that really is just the kind of person max is.

I think this song is about the Jewish holiday of passover

the plagues - first there was a river filled with blood: "let the scarlet river flood" then there were toads: "Let it shower us with toads" also, there were plagues from the sky such as hail "let the purple sky explode.

Also, on passover Jews have a huge meal to remind them of slavery, and in the meal there are four cups of wine that are supposed to be drank: "got me sippin at a gross amount of wine"

also, since it commemorate being slaves, maybe hes thanking her for treating him like a human since slavery is so dehumanizing.

just thoughts seen as Bemis is Jewish - great CD!!! just got the re-issue!

Max seems to be paralleling a complicated relationship to surviving a plague.

As in, he is ready and willing to go through hell to be with this person.

When he says "And I'll Give this curse to you", I really think he's talking about giving a girl herpes or something, but that's more of a fleeting thought than anything.

I mean, in a vague way it could work because in the end he talks about sex, but the passover argument is far more valid. There could be parallels between all of them though.

the whole sex thing at the end is interesting - i think what he sometimes does is put himself in places that Jews were in, in a way that he can relate to it - in alive with the glory of love, hes in the holocaust, but the story is about him and this girl and how they are gonna make love despite all of it - so maybe here is is making love with a girl in the passover story - kinda funny, eh?

I don't think it's meant to be like, passover or anything, I think that the girl is about to leave him, and he's telling her she should stay, or else have to deal with him giving her plagues,

"You don't wanna make me cry or I will fill you with the emptiness inside."

kind of like a threat. As Jehovah did when the pharoh wouldn't set the jews free kin of like a try me, and see what happens kind of deal.

I think that this song is kind of like "Total Revenge" in the fact that there is a girl who does not seem to reciprocate his feelings. It seems that his treatening tone is a product of lost hope, that there isn't any way this girl would willingly be with him anymore. As for the last part of the song, maybe he got attached to this girl after they had sex while the sex was only casual for the girl.

I think he's saying that love is the most beautiful plague and that falling in love or having sex is just like bringing plagues onto yourself or like a curse...but we do it anyway.....or something

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
