I need a little time to think it over
I need a little space just on my own
I need a little time to find my freedom
I need a little

Funny how quick the milk turns sour, isn't it, isn't it?
Your face has been looking like that for hours, hasn't it, hasn't it?
Promises, promises turn to dust
Wedding bells just turn to rust

Trust into mistrust

I need a little room to find myself
I need a little space to work it out
I need a little room all alone
I need a little

You need a little room for your big head, don't you, don't you?
You need a little space for a thousand beds, won't you, won't you?
Lips that promise, fear the worst
Tongue so sharp, the bubble burst

Just into unjust

I've had a little time to find the truth
Now I've had a little room to check what's wrong
I've had a little time, and I still love you
I've had a little

You had a little time and you had a little fun, didn't ya, didn't you?
While you had yours, do you think I had none, do you, do ya?
The freedom that you wanted bad
Is yours for good, I hope you're glad

Sad into unsad

I had a little time to think it over
Had a little room to work it out
I found a little courage to call it off
I've had a little time

I've had a little time
I've had a little time
I've had a little time

I don't think this is at all about him cheating. Speaking as a man, I'd say it's perfectly normal and natural for guys to just want to chill out separately from their wives/girlfriends/whatever, just to sort things out and solve their problems by themselves. However, I've also noticed that there are a lot of girls who don't understand/recognise this need. Hence they get jumpy and start flipping out "oh my god, he's having an affair, he's sleeping around, he no longer loves me, etc". I think this song is just about that lack of communication in the relationship. Because women in general will prefer to talk about their problems, it doesn't make sense that a guy would want to shut himself away and resolve them by himself. In the end, he's taken his time, he's thought things through, he's resolved his problems, he tells her he still loves her, but it's too late. He's tried to say that he just needs a little time, but she's jumped to possibly the wrong conclusions and slept around (had a little fun) and realised that she no longer loves him. So I disagree with blu_girl_4eva and sakura. The lines "had a little space for a thousand beds", "you had a little fun" and "when you had yours, do you think I had none?" are all spoken by her. I'm not saying it's certain that he's not been cheating, he might have been, but nowhere is it anything but her opinions of what's been going on.

    My Interpretation
Personally I disagree slightly, I think they've been fighting a lot, and she loves him so much she always forgives him, and lets him back. Then one day she stands up to him, and he says he needs some space - 'funny how quick the milk turns sour' suggesting that he is able to do whatever he wants but as soon as she does it, he feels like she's destroyed him. Then he wants some space, thinking she'll always be there, then when he goes back to her, she has decided she's better off without him and his love is weak and doesn't mean enough for the pain he causes.

He's messing her around, saying he 'needs time' to think and all that, she's getting annoyed with him. I think he maybe had an affair? The lines 'a little space for a thousand beds' and 'you had a little fun' make me think that. So by the time he's realised that, y'know, he *does* still want her, she's decided she wants rid of him. Reminds me of my parents a bit :)

i luuuurrve this song. i agree wit sakura, he was messing her about. i love the part, "You had a little time And you had a little fun Didn’t you, didn’t you While you had yours Do you think I had none Do you, do you" just shows that she wudn't let him mess her about, and is not the weak, gullible partner he thought she was. as u can tell, i like it :)

Yeah I agree. It sounds like he's reached the point in his relationship where he just doesn't know. Does he want to stick it out? Does he still have the same feelings he's always had? Sounds like me an' my ex actually. LOL!

I was with a man like this for nearly twenty years! He swanned around, doing as he pleased, then when I divorced him, he acted the wounded soldier....
