I hear the baying of the hounds
In the distance, I hear them devouring
Pest ridden jackals of the earth
Diabolical beasts and roaming the forests
In wait and constant protectors
Calling you to sit by his side
Your self loathing image in his flesh
A revelation upon which you linger

His words are flies
Swarming towards the true insects
Feasting on buried dreams
And spreading decay upon your skin
His eyes spew forth a darkness
That cut through and paralyze
Casts light upon your secrets
Forced to confront your enemies

His mouth is a vortex
Sucking you into it's pandemonium
Fools you with a helping hand of ashes
Reached out in false dismay
His body is a country
The cities lay dead and beyond despair
Friends turned enemies unable to come clean
In a rising fog of reeking death

Everything you believed is a lie
Everyone you loved is a death burden
So you take comfort in him
And you are receptive to stark wishes
No longer struggling to declare your stand
You would inflict no harm to others
They are unaware of you
And in a loop of futile events
You are everything, they are nothing

Drown in the deep mire
With past desires
Beneath the mire
Drown desire now with you

Lined up verses on dead skin
"The tainted lips of the stranger
Resting upon hers"

And I embrace bereavement
Everything beloved is shattered anyway
I would devote myself to anyone
I would accept any flaws

I am too weak to resist
Tension vibrating with horror
Finding the outcast in my eyes
Pushing nerves on a puppet
Endless poison in my veins
Clean intent now tainted with death

And so, cold touch now inhumane
Every waking hour
Awaiting a reverie to unfold
And now they are calling me
Louder by the minute
The baying of the hounds
Calling me back to my home

Uhh . . . You forgot the last two verses:

I am to weak to resist Tension vibrating with horror Finding the outcast in my eyes Pushing nerves on a puppet Endless posion in my veins Clean intent now tainted with death

And so, cold touch now inhumane Every waking hour Awaiting a reverie to unfold And now they are calling me Louder by the minute The baying of the hounds Calling me back to my home

I see this track as being the magnum opus of Ghost Reveries, I can hear influences from their entire musical career in this track alone and that theme also extends through the entire album.

This song is a description of the devil. Simple as that.

mikael explained in an interview the meaning of this song. (and btw this is NOT a concept album, read what i said in the ghost of perdition thread)

this song is about how negative things can be positive for people. its about why people choose for "satan" (in the entire album except the grand conjuration the devil is not really the devil like in a religious way. its just a way of talking about the dark and bad side of life)

but back to the meaning. people often do negative things to get a positive result, for example doing drugs: you know its bad for you but it makes you feel better so you choose for a bad thing to make you feel good.

it are things people do all the time in their life. so being put simple this song is about how and why people devote themself to the bad things in life

i think it is about someone who let the devil take control over him or her

In wait and constant protectors Calling you to sit by his side Satan says he will offer you protection andcalls you to sit by his side (but you are a slave atfer all)

Everything you believed is a lie Everyone you loved is a death-burden So you take comfort in him And you are receptive to stark wishes No longer struggling to declare your stand You would inflict no harm to others They are unaware and in a loop of futile events You are everything, they are nothing

everything you believed wat was good is a lie (cause the devil tells you it is a lie) everyone you lvoed is a dead burden (everybody is dead already) So you took conformt in him (you take comfort in satan) and you And you are receptive to stark wishes (satan promisses a lot but he will neve make it true in the end, you are somehow having false desires) No longer struggling to declare your stand (you no longer need to show what you stand for) You would inflict no harm to others (you say you won't) They are unaware and in a loop of futile events (they think you are good, but when they don't suspect it you strike/fight them and in a loop of futile events/fights) You are everything, they are nothing You think you are everything, what can they do about you ? you can't be touched/matched)

Drown in the deep mire With past desires Beneath the mire Drown a desire now with you

you will find out that satan will not make his words come true and you drown along with your false desires

And I embrace bereavement Everything beloved is shattered anyway

you give yourself more to him cause everything you loved is already broken and good for nothing so why not go all the way then ?

I am to weak to resist (you can't resist the grip of satan by yourself) Tension vibrating with horror Finding the outcast in my eyes (you are starting to feel frightened) Endless posion in my veins (satan has poisoned your mind)

And now they are calling me Louder by the minute The baying of the hounds Calling me back to my home

he keeps calling you to come back and it gets stronger and stronger cause it feels like your home (you feel that you belong to satan)

Some of the things you say are somewhat correct, but the lyrics are just describing what the devil does/how he works.

Read the song lyrics for Ghost of Perdition and this song makes sense, warning of the things that happen by taking comfort in Satan. Especially the line "And I embrace bereavement Everything beloved is shattered anyway I would devote myself to anyone I would accept any flaws"

After the death of his Mother, the Son is lost, and takes comfort in Satan.

going on the concept i explained earlier...

this is about the narrator hearing the calls of satan. He is trying to depict satan in this song, but no matter how much he despises it, its where he belongs..

"Your self-loathing image in his flesh"

I believe that the main character on Ghost Reveries is in fact the son of the Devil, who has now in this song been outcast by society, but is reluctant to ally himself with the Devil.

I'm extremely sure it IS a concept album, especially seeing as the songs are set up to form a chronological story about this guy being born and chased through the forest etc.

This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
