Tu n'auras personne

ROUGH TRANSLATION ( I used a translator, that is why it's so poor :)

Basically this song is like Chick Habit, it's about manwhores, who flirt with loads of women.

April March - Drop the girls

Drop the girls, one day it's you who will leave, drop the girls. Drop the girls, one day it's you which will cry. Yes I cried but this day, no I will not cry, no I will not cry.

I will say it's well made for you, I will say that will learn to you, I will say that will learn to you, drop the girls.

Drop the girls that will play you a nasty trick, drop the girls, drop the girls, you will pay for it one of these days.

One does not play with impunity, with an innocent heart, with an innocent heart, you will see what I feel.

Before it is not a long time, before it is not a long time, the chance gives up, that which does not know, that to leave the wounded hearts, you will not have anybody to comfort you, you will not have stolen it.

    Drop the girls.

Drop the girls, one day it is you whom one will leave, drop the girls. Drop the girls, one day it is you which will cry.

Not to feel sorry for you, there will not be nobody of other that you, nobody of other that you, then you will remember, all that I say to you there, all that I say to you there

    Well guess what, shadowstalker.

April March's version, the english speaking version, is an interpretation of the french version, NOT a direct translation.

Furthermore, the orignal song, which was done by France Gall, doesn't necessarily sound exactly like this one, either, just a little trivia for you there.

Before snipping at someone else, always be certain you have a clue. ;)

...and in case that wasn't clear enough, in other words, no, it is NOT Chick Habit, not literally---- same tune (in the Death Proof credits) or not.

Ha ha. The pleasure of internet smart-ass remarks are vast.

ANYWAY, I adore France Gall. The original is worth the listen.

Given that the 'rough translation' misconstrues the actual meaning of the song, I'm providing my own translation, never use internet translators please! D:

Give up with/drop the girls One day someone will leave you Give up with/drop the girls Give up with/drop the girls One day it's you who'll be crying Yes I cried then But I won't cry again No I won't cry again I'll say you done it well for yourself I'll say that will teach you I'll say that will teach you Give up with/drop the girls Give up with/drop the girls It'll play you a bad card / It'll come back on you Give up with/drop the girls Give up with/drop the girls You'll pay for it one of these days You can't play carelessly with an innocent heart with an innocent heart You'll know what I'm feeling Before too long Before too long

Luck abandons He who only knows How to leave bruised hearts behind You'll have nobody to console / comfort you You won't have got away with this

Give up with/drop the girls Give up with/drop the girls One day someone will leave you Give up with/drop the girls Give up with/drop the girls One day it's you who'll be crying I'm only complaining because there won't be anyone else but you anyone else but you So you're going to remember Everything that I'm telling you here Everything that I'm telling you here

*slightly altered for "untranslateables" / dodgey sounding pieces of direct translations to make it more english, how we would say it.

    Translation

"laisse tomber!" occurs sometimes in everyday French as an interjection. Literally it means: "let to fall". As an interjection, on it's own, it's somewhat equivalent to English "Drop it!", "Skip it!", "Forget it!"

But here it's not just an interjection, so the sense is changed a bit. I don't think "Forget" works very well in the context of the song's story and there's a perfectly good word for forget in French, so I think the sense of the phrase here is either "drop", or "leave". I like "drop", personally, just because it's closer to the meaning of tomber. But "leave" works in the story, maybe even better.

It's hard to translate well, of course, as lyrics are, after all, poetry. Several idioms are used, too, which makes it somewhat hard to get the exact feeling across. But it seems to be about a girl scolding a boy who's left her for some other girl/girls about what will happen to him in the future.

I tried my own hand at another translation:

Laisse tomber les filles Leave all those easy girls Laisse tomber les filles Leave all those easy girls Un jour c'est toi qu'on laissera One day it's you who they'll be leaving Laisse tomber les filles Leave all those easy girls Laisse tomber les filles Leave all those easy girls Un jour c'est toi qui pleureras One day it's you who'll be crying Oui j'ai pleuré mais ce jour-là Yes I was crying but that day Non je ne pleurerai pas No I won't be crying then Non je ne pleurerai pas No I won't be crying then Je dirai c'est bien fait pour toi I'll say it serves you right Je dirai ça t'apprendra I'll say that teaches you Je dirai ça t'apprendra I'll say that teaches you Laisse tomber les filles Leave all those easy girls Laisse tomber les filles Leave all those easy girls Ça te jouera un mauvais tour That'll play a dirty trick on you Laisse tomber les filles Leave all those easy girls Laisse tomber les filles Leave all those easy girls Tu le paieras un de ces jours One of these days you will pay On ne joue pas impunément You can't play fast and loose Avec un cœur innocent With an innocent heart Avec un cœur innocent With an innocent heart Tu verras ce que je ressens You'll see what I feel Avant qu'il ne soit longtemps It won't be long before then Avant qu'il ne soit longtemps It won't be long before then La chance abandonne Abandoned by luck Celui qui ne sait He who knows nothing Que laisser les cœurs blessés Who leaves hearts broken Tu n'auras personne You won't have anyone Pour te consoler To comfort you Tu ne l'auras pas volé You won't have stolen anything Laisse tomber les filles Leave all those easy girls Laisse tomber les filles Leave all those easy girls Un jour c'est toi qu'on laissera One day it's you who they'll be leaving Laisse tomber les filles Leave all those easy girls Laisse tomber les filles Leave all those easy girls Un jour c'est toi qui pleureras One day it's you who'll be crying Non pour te plaindre il n'y aura No for your whining there'll be nothing Personne d'autre que toi There'll be nobody else but you Personne d'autre que toi There'll be nobody else but you Alors tu te rappelleras Then you'll remember Tout ce que je te dis là Everything I'm telling you now Tout ce que je te dis là Everything I'm telling you now

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
