First they ignore you
Then laugh at you and hate you
Then they flight you
Then you win

When the truth dies
Very bad things happen
They're being heartless
Again

I know, it's coming, there's gonna be violence
I've taken as much as I'm willing to take
Why do you think we should suffer in silence?
When a heart is broken there's nothing to break

You've been mixing
With some very heavy faces
The boys have done
A bit of bird

They don't kill their own
And they all love their mothers
But you're out of your depth son
Have a word

I know, it's coming, there's gonna be violence
I've taken as much as I'm willing to take
Why do you think we should suffer in silence?
The heart is broken there's nothing to break

All is wonderful in this life
Dreaming of the sun she warms
You should see me in the afterlife
Picking up the sons of dust

When you think we're lost, we're exploring
What you think is worthless, I'm adoring
You don't want the truth, truth is boring
I've got this fever need to
Leave the house
Leave the car
Leave the bad men where they are
I'll leave a few shells in my gun
And stop me starring at the sun

I know, it's coming, there's be gonna violence
I've taken as much as I'm willing to take
Why do you think we should suffer in silence?
My heart is broken there's nothing to break

According to my gay friend this song is all about the oppression of gays. Yes the first stanza is Ghandi's quote, but my friend says it's actual like a motto for gays now. "I know i'ts coming there's going to be violence, I"ve taken as much as I'm willing to take" Either referring to the gay guy who wants to fight against those who oppress him or the gay guy knowing he's going to get hurt but doesn't care. "Why do you think we should suffer in silence?" Why should we keep our sexuality a secret? Our love a secret? "When a heart is broken there's nothing left to break" If we choose to keep living a lie we won't have any hearts left to break/basically be unable to love.

"First they ignore you Then they laugh at you Then they fight you Then you win" I like Robbie's songs, but quoting Gandhi in them is a touch conceited.

My mum says it is a political song... I guess... some parts are very similar to the Cronalla Riots we have had in Australia.

@[Kahiara:35260] Actually I think the husband passed away, "She sang for you last night She heard you were calling" Many people say they have felt, heard, or seen their loved ones after they have passed. "Don't be scared now Close your eyes She holds guard tonight Go on forward no remorse Life will take it's course" This is said to the late husband by a third part (never named), who encourages him to pass on. Because life will eventually continue. The phrase "holds guard" refers to the ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_(ceremony) ) which is a Christian ceremony held after someone dies. Now it is usually held right after the funeral, but in most celtiic countries the wake is held before the funeral. "She danced with you last night so you will remember All you have shared, a lifetime." This sentence feels as if the only thing it wants to convey is their history together, namely, husband and wife. For the rest it just refers back to the first verse.

Moyet later described how her song "Goodbye 70's" had been inspired by her disillusionment with how the late-1970s punk scene had turned out, saying, "'Goodbye 70's' is about punk and not caring how you were dressed, and then I discovered that so many of my friends that I'd thought it all really meant something to just saw it as another trend... That's what 'Goodbye 70's' was all about, about how sour the whole thing became."
