Stretched Over Lyrics

Hearts growing dim, thoughts are thin, we slide
She’s in the way, in the wake of our devise
And all this time we’d seen her
We never thought we’d meet her
But the time has come
She’s barely clothed, ribs kicked in, our means
Ache giving in, hell stretches over me
We slide, we slide, and we know
As we walk the line
We slide, we slide, and we know
We slide, and all this time we’d seen her
We slide, we knew we’d never meet her
We slide, we slide and we know

After listening to this song many times and seeing the band preform it, I believe it's about the consequences of our actions catching up with us. While "we" were working on "this" over "here" we knew it was causing "that" but didn't pay attention because it didn't directly affect us. Now the consequences have come in the image of a barely clothed, emaciated, aching woman and we are reeling backwards over what we have done, while knowing all the time this was coming.

I've seen a lot of women struggle with their body image. Sisters, friends, girlfriends. It's a reality of this generation, probably more than ever. It's crazy because every guy has these expectations of and for women, good and bad. Some guys openly compare what they find attractive, and what they find ugly, thinking that their words have no consequences. The media, and everyday conversations has helped to construct a type of "perfect" girl. When we meet her, we see what we, society, has done. Barely clothed, ribs kicked in, OUR MEANS. We, i suppose both guys and girls, have added to this image. We never thought that our words, thoughts, and implications could have had such a negative effect on how women view and treat themselves. We never thought that we would meet her, and now that we have, maybe it's too late. We slide further and further from the truth that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. I don't know. This is just something that crossed my mind when I listened to it. I like your interpretation, "CricketJar." Definitely makes sense. Anyway, take it or leave it.
