I Am The Arsonist Lyrics
And the scars he will leave
And the pain he inflicts
Will burn out over time
Make us stand out of line
And the ash will break upon the shore
Just like you, you will break upon the shoreline
Upon the shoreline
If the timing is right
We'll make sure to be seen
And the weight we will bear
In the home we are safe
Are we safe?
For a taste, just a simple kiss
The way you bend before the break and
The way my throat would feel
I'm scared of failure
It's our plan, strike a match
And let's burn down this place
It's our plan, strike a match
And let's burn down this place
It's our plan, strike a match
And let's burn down this place
Burn down this place
For a taste, just a simple kiss
The way you bend before the break and
The way my throat would feel
I'm scared of failure
For a taste, just a simple kiss
The way you bend before the break and
The way my throat would feel
I'm scared of
In confidence
They fall bleeding
In infamy
You'll exist forever
In confidence
They fall bleeding
In infamy
You'll exist forever
You'll exist forever
You'll exist forever
Exist forever
Forever
Forever
And the pain he inflicts
Will burn out over time
Make us stand out of line
Just like you, you will break upon the shoreline
Upon the shoreline
We'll make sure to be seen
And the weight we will bear
In the home we are safe
Are we safe?
The way you bend before the break and
The way my throat would feel
I'm scared of failure
And let's burn down this place
It's our plan, strike a match
And let's burn down this place
It's our plan, strike a match
And let's burn down this place
Burn down this place
The way you bend before the break and
The way my throat would feel
I'm scared of failure
The way you bend before the break and
The way my throat would feel
I'm scared of
They fall bleeding
In infamy
You'll exist forever
They fall bleeding
In infamy
You'll exist forever
You'll exist forever
You'll exist forever
Exist forever
Forever

great song, the last few lines of the lyrics are wrong though, its: "and in confidence they fall bleeding in infamy you'll exist forever"
havent heard the song... planning on it though... funeral for a friend rock... taste of chaos in Sydney in October... they'll be there along with The Used, Story Of The Year, Killswitch Engage and Rise Against... can't wait... best song by these guys? "Red Is The New Black"
alright.. thanks, i wasn't sure what he was trying to say.
i love when matt sings that shore part. it's hot. XD
matt -is- hot >.<
I'm so in love with FFAF's music. I saw them on tuesday...i cried when they played red is the new black...tis my favouritest song -ever-
Anyway, I think this song's about being in love with someone who doesn't know it, and being too "scared of failure" to try anything. That's what it means to me at the moment anyway >_
There are a few lines in this song which make me think it's about marital abuse, mainly because it reminds me a lot of a song by Boysetsfire called White Wedding Dress.
"And the scars he will leave And the pain he inflicts..."
These lines definity suggest a dominant male, it could either be a husband or father or someone else, who is being aggressive and/or violent.
"It's our plan, strike a match And lets burn down this place..."
It's here where the comparisons to White Wedding Dress grow, the abused victum decides to take the ultimate action and attempt to kill their abuser by burning them alive.
"The way you bend before the break and The way my throat would feel..."
These lines from the chorus suggest that the abuser will all of a sudden turn aggressive with little warning and that they often resort to strangling the abused.
Thats what i think anyway.
Even though this song does seem to owe a lot to White Wedding Dress it's still an amazing song, Matt addresses the issue from more of a personal viewpoint than Nathan, Boysetsfire vocalist, who in running with his bands own agenda takes up a more political stand, trying to raise awareness on the issue so authoritys can take more action against abusive husbands. I have wonder why it was only used as a b-side and not put onto Hours, still it was released for us all to hear so there's no point in bitching about it.
Ok, I've heard it now. And before the song was even over, I was in love with it. "I'm Scared Of Failure" I love it how he says it so bravely. It's hard for people to admit something like that. x x x

It seems to me that it's a song to help someone through a break-up.
"Scars", mental, not physical, Getting hurt by the past relationship. But it's these scars that make us different. It's how we survive that makes us who we are. It's nothing to be ashamed of.
Things get destroyed, it's natural, it happens to everything/everyone no matter how strong they are, reassuring her that it's ok to be hurt.
There's no point in hiding from the world, if people see you're happy and moving on, it's a good thing, though people will gossip etc. Safe in your home, nothing can hurt you, but you can't always stay where you are safe. Which is what they've done, but they're still as vulnerable as ever.
He wants her! But he's scared that if he does anything it'll hurt her more, or that it's too soon and she'll push him away. Lump in his throat, cause he can't say what he really wants to.
It'll be better for both of them if they destroy all the past links, what they consider “home” because they're stuck in the past because they feel safe there, but they both need to move on.
When the relationship is strong, it will fall apart, the way relationships always do, but they'll always try, though it's destined to go wrong.
That's what I think each verse of the song's about, but I could be wrong...

It does sound very much like marital abuse. All the talk about scars and pain. I think the woman thinks things will get better and it will all 'burn out' but then decides she can't take it anymore and gets rid of the husband.
i think of it as like a couple who find things difficult because of each of there insecurities. the woman may of had trouble in the past with another man who abused her and she still carries that fear. the man is scared to commit and so feels burning down there home or whatever gets rid of everything then he doesnt need to worry about it, or that burning it down is sort of a cleansing experience for both of them.
"the way you bend before the break" - like snapping a ruler it will bend until it breaks as does she, she wont just snap back, a reason for loving her maybe
"the way my throat would feel, im scared of failure" - gettin a lump in the throat coz hes scared of failing? coz he's upset her to the point where she snaps, thats what i've come to see it as anyway
