Still Lyrics
If I remember right, this song was inspired by something from Dave's childhood. I think it was something like, him and his friends were riding their bikes down to the park to play soccer and mess around, when they found a ton of ambulances and firetrucks up around the train-tracks by the park. I guess some guy had killed himself on the tracks, letting himself get hit by a train. In their childhood innocence, Dave and his friends went to check it out and started playing around the scene of the tragedy, supposedly coming across pieces of the deceased.
bummer.
great song to start the acoustic disc with.
@Childe He said this word word \r\n"Still is probably the first song I ever wrote that comes close to any sort of storytelling. It\'s about my being a kid, going to the lake by my house on a Saturday morning and seeing all these ambulances and fire trucks because someone decided to kill himself by sitting on the train tracks. When you\'re a child, you\'re so naive, you have no idea what\'s really going on, and you start to explore and find yourself playing with pieces of the....it\'s a pretty gory story, actually, but it happened."\r\n\r\nI always so it as...

I love this song but I've got to admit that at first blush I thought it was about a suicide pact.
That bass note that cues the chorus just cuts right through me!
This song has this mysterious mood to it, I think mostly about ignorance and innocence of youth. The lyrics are really simple, like how a kid would talk. I think this is about kids messing in stuff that they don't understand cause it's way too deep for them to grasp. There are some hints of suicide, but if you think about it in perspective with the story behind it, it makes sense. Overall, it's my favorite song off of the acoustic disc.
I think the song is influenced by the film Stand By Me. It has that - like guitarguru said - the ignorance and innocence of youth which the four main characters of that film had.
I didn't really get a chance to explain before, I was in a rush. So:
"If you'd like to walk awhile We could waste the day follow me until the trees I will lead the way"
Maybe sung by River Phoenix's character, as it was he who led the gang.
"Bring some change out to the bridge bring some alcohol they will make a final wish just before the fall"
They only took a small amount of money with them, and the alcohol line could refer to them acting older than they were.
"Promise I will be forever yours" The characters made a pact that they'd be friends forever.
"Promise not to say another word Nevermind whats done is done Always was a lucky one"
Maybe them sharing secrets.
"Watch the sunrise all alone sitting on the tracks hear the train coming roaring in never coming back laying quiet in the grass everything is still river stones and broken bones scattered on the hill"
The entire film their journey was along these train tracks - it was like their guidelines, and twice encounter a train (once where one of them wants to jump out of the way just in time, and the second where they crossing a bridge).
"Promise I wont be forever yours Promise not to say another word Here forever deep beneath the dirt Nevermind whats done is done Always was a lucky one"
The same as before, but the "beneath the dirt" could refer to the body they were searching for.
i never even thought of the lyrics in the second verse! i did even think of the suicide theory until childe's post.AWESOME SONG!!! The second disc on "In Your Honor" is awesome!
these lyrics are listed as Miracle (track 3, second disk) on my CD, which is odd. I have the proper cd though, not a copy.. all the second disk's tracks seem to be screwed up as well compared to these lyrics..i wonder which one is wrong
"Still" should be the first track on the acoustic disc; I have the DVD-edition, and that's how it's listed.
The guitar in this song reminds me a little bit of Enter Sandman by Metallica...Maybe it's just me.
ok in my opinion this song is about, forbidden love and a suicide pact...they are not allowed to be together in this life so, why not the afterlife..it's brilliant it's haunting and beautiful!
"Promise I will be forever yours Promise not to say another word"
"Here forever deep beneath the dirt"...
