This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
I just held on and hoped you'd find
The nowhere else you'd find my kind
Dear John, oh yes I did all I could
To make it be like the wallflower who never could
And I admit I wasn't pure, dear John
When I try so hard to make you sure
Life without you is not a cure
Dear John
And my unsung hero lies beneath
The rooftops made of gold
He's telling me I should jump
He'll be there when I fall
So I step back, pretend I'm shocked
Really I always knew
This would happen to me and you, dear John
I just held on and hoped you'd find
The nowhere else you'd find my kind
Dear John
Love's almighty

Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,

Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
Amazing

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
Maybe I'm manipulating the song meaning to fit my own life at the moment, but this literally sounds like something I would attempt to write at a time like this- if I had the talent.
I think it's about the end of a relationship, they broke up, and she's devastated. She keeps "holding on" hoping he doesn't move on, find anyone else that could replace her. She tried everything she could to salvage the relationship, but it was in vain. She loved him dearly, and he left her all alone.
Although I'll admit I'm confused about these lines: "And I admit I wasn’t pure, dear John When I try so hard to make you sure Life without you is not a cure"
At first I thought it could be that perhaps he can't accept her imperfections? He has high expectations for her maybe? It could be the last two lines are her trying to illustrate to him how deeply she cares about him, how she couldn't live without him, and maybe he won't believe her. I kind of doubt this though, I'm not a very proficient song analyzer.
"And my unsung hero lies beneath The rooftops made of gold He’s telling me I should jump He’ll be there when I fall"
Okay, I'm pretty confident about this part. At least most of it. He's telling her to jump, that he'll be there to catch her. I think this is an allusion of falling in love. He tells her to trust him, that he won't hurt her. It really is a risk, loving someone. You're completely vulnerable and they can tear you apart- so easily, without a second thought. It's like placing all of your happiness in someone else's (perhaps incapable) hands.
"So I step back, pretend I’m shocked Really I always knew This would happen to me and you, dear John"
I think she's referring to her reaction after her and "John" fall apart. She has trust issues, and saw it coming once he got too close to her. This part gets to me the most in the song, she already knew he would let her down eventually.
I just held on and hoped you’d find The nowhere else you’d find my kind Dear John Love’s almighty
Maybe the "love's almighty" line refers to the immense impact love has on your life. It can make it or break it.
