In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Memory, fading out
Its presence still lingers in my mind
Listen to your inner voice
There's no escape, there's no other choice
A foolish fate that came about
Death could not leave without
Don't try to scour your inane soul
It would be labour lost
Deep inside hides a lie
Where can we try to seek
A way so this will die
Innocence died when they took his mind
And they tried to leave him behind
Not even a cascade of tears will save you
And keep you away from harm
Concinnity of destiny
Is not what you wished it to be
Blinded by love
Between lust and hate
You scarred your fate
There's no time to waste
Ride for your own ruin
Odium became your opium
Please don't let me bleed for all eternity
Please leave me be in my own misery
Its presence still lingers in my mind
Listen to your inner voice
There's no escape, there's no other choice
A foolish fate that came about
Death could not leave without
Don't try to scour your inane soul
It would be labour lost
Deep inside hides a lie
Where can we try to seek
A way so this will die
Innocence died when they took his mind
And they tried to leave him behind
Not even a cascade of tears will save you
And keep you away from harm
Concinnity of destiny
Is not what you wished it to be
Blinded by love
Between lust and hate
You scarred your fate
There's no time to waste
Ride for your own ruin
Odium became your opium
Please don't let me bleed for all eternity
Please leave me be in my own misery

Fast Car

Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
i love this song so much i think is about a relatioship broken up but she doesnt want to let go, it talks about death too maybe he is dying??? i want to know what "Trois Vierges" means!!!!!
Trois Vierges is French; it means Three Virgins. Still not sure what the song's about though.
I think the three vierges are the biblical three marys/maries.
It means he has a threesome with virgins. In his 40's they'll just be dressed up as virgins as they will have to be paid ;)
afaik "trois vierges" is french for three virgins. In the general context of this song this makes not much sense. Which is why I assume that it's based on some background storry. The vocals are a duet between a man and a woman. I think that said virgins were about to engage in a relationship with him. Over jealousy or whatever they somehow managed to kill him or someone else.
"A foolish fate that came about Death could not leave without Don't try to scour your inane soul It would be labour lost"
The man singing might be the dead lover and the woman probably some higher entity. Together they comment a past event.
The last stanca is sung by the man so he might not be dead but became an emotional cripple.
This might be bullshit but it makes sense to me.
Interesting song. Heard it just tonight. I doublt those virgins killed anything. I believe he did it all by himself.
This song was written for a french movie i can't really hear what it's called but simone comments on that at about 5:30

It's actually a 2005 Dutch movie, called Joyride. Sadly, from the previews at IMDB, despite an awesome soundtrack (Epica's "The Score"), it looks like a pretty cheesy and pathetic movie.
After doing some research, this is what I found:
the song is part of the Dutch movie Joyride (2005), as you can hear it in the trailer: youtube.com/watch
According to the IMDB website, this is what the movie is about:
"When her friends (Chantal and Rose) boycott her party, eccentric goth-girl Joy vows revenge. Familiar with the legend of Troisvierges - a village in Provence where, in the middle ages, three maids ritualistically murdered their helpless male captive - Joy sets out to recreate the legend using Chantal and Rose as unwitting participants.
To this end, she proposes a joyride. Promising to arrange a car, she turns up in a cherry red convertible and the girls hit the road. As the plot thickens, it turns out that not only is the car stolen but its owner, Tim, is locked in the trunk.
Their joyride to the south of France - wherein the three gorgeous girls torment their toy-boy hostage - begins as a game and turns into a reckless adventure with sex and violence to spare."

@karinhsu The link is not working, just google "Teaser Joyride" on Youtube. I meant to say that the song is part of the movie's soundtrack.
