"Dreamgirl" as written by David John Matthews, Mark Christopher Batson, Boyd C. Tinsley, Leroi H. Moore, Carter A. Beauford and Stefan K. Lessard....
Yeah, ya, yeah
Yeah, ya, yeah oh

I would dig a hole all the way to China
Unless of course I was there
Then I'd dig my way home
If by digging, I could steal
The wind from the sails of the greedy men who ruled the world

Still you my best friend
And after a good good drunk
You and me
Wake up and make love after a deep sleep
Where I was dreaming
I was dreaming of a dreamgirl, dreamgirl, dreamgirl, dreamgirl

Well I was feeling like a creep
As I watched you asleep
Face down in the grass
In the park in the middle of a hot afternoon
Your top was untied
And I thought 'how nice it'll be the fall of your sweat down your spine'

You're my best friend
Or after a good good drunk
You and me
Wake up and make love after a deep sleep
Where I was dreaming
I was dreaming of a dreamgirl, dreamgirl, dreamgirl, dreamgirl

Caught by the wave my back to the ocean
It knocks me off my feet, just as I find my footing
Here you come again, dreamgirl, oh dreamgirl
That's all dreamgirl, but a dreamgirl, dreamgirl, oh wait dreamgirl
In my dreams dreamgirl, I'm dreaming dream girl
Deep in, deep in

General CommentI think the "after a good good drunk" lyric could actually be literally translated to "after a good good drink (or series of drinks)" but is pronouced "drunk" to capture the essence of the state of being drunk. He did something similar in the Bartender Please intro to Nancies at the Central Park Concert when he says "I wasn't plannin' on gettin' druuunk tonite"- it's the slurred speech of belligerence. This one single word within the song ("drunk") completely captures an entire experience, not because of the word itself but the WAY he sings that one word.

General CommentThis is a great new Dave song with a great African yet American vibe to it, just liek Dave 'emself.
The lyrics remind me a lot of Crash.
Since in Crash he is peering at the girl through her window and here a gril at a park and beach.
This song is proabably about it wife, I think.

    Great song tho', love it

General CommentIt's no wonder the ladies love Dave! This song is TO DIE FOR! A great selection to start off this long awaited album. And so far, the entire album is fantastic.

As for his meaning behind this tune: his deep infatuation with the one he not only loves, but lusts after, too. Someone he sees as his friend, too. She's his DREAMGIRL. What girl doesn't long to be someone's dreamgirl from time to time?

Dave's the master of lyrical poetry!

General CommentI think it means that good drunks are usually good listeners or perhaps that they are so talkative about their problems that yours don't seem so bad anymore. Whatever the case, I think he's talking about a drunk person.

General Commentthis is as close to being with another as dave can get. his dreamgirl passes through the space between that all others around the world cannot get through. only by living in the reality of his dreams can he get closer to his loved ones that hes constantly thinking of. come on...try thinking he's a drop of sweat running down the back of his friend? theres the space..
only in his dreams can he acheive being closer as one with as a man with his dreamgirl...
like sex..we try to get close to our loved ones but theres always that space between...so we dream to be closer..
