You cant write the same song over again,
It's in the same key,
Over again, yeah,
Because were doing so good,
Making up for miles just a little while like you would,
Under-estimating, you know you think were doing so good,
I'm glad to be a part of the glass that you placed upon your withered heart, encased and left for danger,
In a race to the rode on the way to apathy,
It's life's little let downs, spontaneity,

You cant write the same song over again,
It's in the same key,
Over again, yeah,
Because were doing so good,
Making up for miles just a little while like you would,
Under-estimating, you know you think were doing so good,
I'm glad to be a part of the glass that you placed upon your withered heart, encased and left for danger,
In a race to the rode on the way to apathy,
It's life's little let downs, spontaneity,
Spontaneity, yeah,

You can't write the same song over again,
It's in the same key,
Over again, yeah,
Because were doing so good,
Making up for miles just a little while like you would,
Under-estimating, you know you think were doing so good,
I'm glad to be a part of the glass that you placed upon your withered heart, encased and left for danger,
It's life's little let downs,
It's life's little let downs, spontaneity,

I like how he says you can't write the same song over again, yet it repeats itself anyway, as they do with other songs such as histrionics. This is of course saying don't try to do too much too quickly, emodied in the title "Pace Yourself." They apply it to song writing, but more importantly to relationships. Using a line like "In a race on the road on the way to apathy" saying that to keep on doing things in a relationship or otherwise eventually turns us numb to them. Perfection isn't what we need, it's life's little let downs, cuz it would be spontaneous, something new. Also, showing that she has done this many times before, "glass you placed upon your withered heart encased and left for danger." This is a girl who has crushed guys hearts so many times, she doesn't even care anymore, but this guy is just happy to be a part of her neglegence to emotion. Amazing

This song is riddled with contradictions: 1) "You can't write the same song over again, It's in the same key" There are hundreds of thousands of songs writtin in the same key... if your not familiar with keys here's one for example... G... there are literally endless songs in the key of G 2)"Making up for miles, just a little while." Miles take along time to make up for, its not some small off-handed event. 3)"Underestimating, you know you think we're doing so good" An underestimation would be thinking that "we" are not doing good at all 4)"Glad to be a part... danger" He says he's glad to be a part of a bunch of negative rhetoric... 5)"Race on the... way to apathy" Racing to do nothing? Hurry up and stop? 6) (my personal favorited) "life's little let downs, spontaneity" A spontanious event is not preconcieved... you can be dissapointed by something that you didn't plan on happening... Its like saying, "i'm dissapointed that someone didn't walk up to me today and give me a million dollars" That's one in just about every line! As for the line "Glad to be a part... ...danger" I think it could mean the exact oposite of what was mentioned in the earlier post. Since it is her heart that is "whithered" and "incased and left for danger" it's more likely that she is the victum. However, going with the theme of contradiction, maybe this person has not been heartbroken in anyway but is merely avoiding heartbreak. The "encasing" is evidence of this. In this case, the let down is more of the absense of spontineity, this person is completely afraid and avoids any spontaneous action. She's "running the road to apathy" and, since she does not allow the narrator into her "heart", he is glad to simply be running beside her.

i agree with everyone above me, esp. CBrownie. but i think i have a slightly different perspective. i feel like this song discribes the frustration they experienced while trying to create new songs while touring. that was the initial feeling i got from it anyway. i love how they utilize the electonics to make a kind of robotic, rash effect. very thought provokeing.
