No thanks
No more
No love

I'm done
I've had enough

You're going off with her and I wish I was
But there's another can be just because

All right
Be on your way

The kindest thing to say is not that you have fallen for me
Say you'll come back to my arms again someday

Oh
Baby write some words about how you can't shut me out
How you must find a way to see me one more time
One more time

And please call up all your friends and tell them it can't end
You don't know what you'd do if you lost her and lost me too

That's fine
That's good
That's nice

I understand the price
The cost of craving dark instead of light
I flip a coin to see if you still care tonight

My blood
My hand
My soul

I've thrown them on to you without control
The things I freely give you stole
And now I'm left in pieces

Baby tell the world about me
The way you won me over in a city you can't remember
You think it was September
Sweet September

Oh baby
Oh
It's all right
I know she needs you more than I do

And I wouldn't win this fight
But there is one thing that you've gotta do
You've gotta tell the world about a girl you once knew
Oh
She wasn't meant to be but you fell so very deeply in love with me

To all the girls he's loved
To all the girls he's loved

She's in love with him. He's in love with her... and another woman. He wants to be with both of them, but it hurts the singer too much when he goes off with "her," and she feels betrayed by his inability to commit. She knows that if she forces him to choose, he won't choose her... so she's walking away.

I don't think this is a typical "you cheated on me and I'm leaving you" song-- the situation seems far more complicated, either an open relationship or an affair (he's married and the singer is "the other woman"). It seems as if he really does love her deeply and will be heartbroken when she leaves, but he's unable or unwilling to give up the other woman he's with, and the situation just hurts her too much for her to stay. Painfully beautiful.

I don't think this song is about a loose guy having found a new interest. I think the lyrics imply that the guy used to have a relation with another girl. They broke up and in the meantime he met and fell in love with the singer.

However, the previous girlfriend realised how much she misses him and that she can't live without him, leaving him in quite a dilemma.

The singer in this case lets him go, realizing that her 'rival' loves him sincerely and needs him. She lets him go so that he won't have to suffer under a dilemma. Thats how I've always interpreted the song. Its one of my favorites, so pure, noble and beautiful.

I love this song. I really love it.

It's for a boy she fell in love with. and he fell in love with her, but it didn't work. maybe because of the circumstances, maybe because of something else - it doesn't matter.

and now she's telling him that she just wants a line in a song. a thought a day. that he tells the world about her. nothing else.

I totally agree with gabbyownsme's comment. I love the way she chose to sing this. To me I think she's talking about a somewhat hypocritical guy who is somewhat of a player. Basically he wants to have his cake and eat it too. He doesn't want to make the commitment to have an exclusive relationship with her because he's also interested in another girl, but at the same time, he can't bare the idea of completely losing the singer. He also tries to make himself feel better about his actions by makins tons of crappy excuses. In doing so, he plays around a lot with her emotions, and thus, we have a gorgeous song.

Wow. im surprised more people haven't written. I think that it's about a boy she loved, who fell in love with another girl, and she ended up saying "I give up, she can have you". that really means alot to me, because i've done the exact thing.

This song to me sounds so much like it's about the singer being secretly involved with a guy who's in a relationship with someone. The singer herself is actually a friend of the guy and the guy's friends, and probably even know the guy's girlfriend/wife, yet they manage to go on without being found out.

"You're going off with her" means that the guy ends up choosing to be with his girl and leaves the singer. And even though the singer is still deeply in love with him, she knows that they "never can be, just because".

"And please call up all your friends And tell them it can't end You don't know what you'd do If you lost her (And lost me, too)"

This means that the singer wants him to admit to his friends and tell them about her, and that secretly she's tired of being a secret in his life. But she also had the hope that he would admit that he couldn't leave her as well.

"I understand the price The cost of craving dark instead of light I flip a coin to see if you still care tonight"

The singer knows what she was getting into, being involved with a guy who already has a girlfriend. She knew it was going to hurt but she took it anyway. And she could only "flip a coin" to know whether or not he actually cares about her, or whether or not he's going to end it soon.

"Baby, tell the world about me The way you won me over In a city you can't remember"

The singer wants him to "tell the world about her", to admit that they are close and how it all had come to happen.

"Oh, baby Oh, it's all right I know she needs you more than I do And I wouldn't win this fight But there is one thing that you've gotta do You've gotta tell the world About a girl you once knew Oh, she wasn't meant to be

But you fell So very deeply In love With me"

This part makes me think that the singer knows the guy's girlfriend personally, like she knows the girlfriend is going through something terrible and needs him but he was with the singer most of the time instead and she's telling him that it's okay if he's leaving her for this girl. She knew he wasn't going to choose her over this girl anyway, but she still wanted him to at least admit about what they have done, maybe because of the guilt. However, it seemed that she was hoping that while confessing to what he has done he would say that he couldn't help but falling in love with the singer even though he knew he shouldn't.

I feel as if this song is about two people in a relationship who bring a third person into their relationship. The third person thought they be together forever but the core couple realizes that it just isn't realistic. So they break it off with her. She says in the song "your goin off with her but I wish I was" she loved them both equally And she's sorta stuck in these feelings. She loved them both so much it hurts to see them throw her to the side. In the original audio to the song there's 3 minutes and 15 seconds of silence. I believe that the silence represents her well silence. She's unable to speak of such a relationship and in a sense can't ease her pain. Then finally she sings to both of them from afar starting off with "" no thanks, no more, no love. I'm done I ve had enough" . She then goes on Talking about her wish to simply feel the memories they gave her, and how the pending story's to tell by them about her that will say she's "just a girl they once knew" nothing more. It's sad but I feel like that is wat the song is, its just pure sadness. Singing to her loves hoping they'd hear her pain and the truth in her song and come back to this girl they once knew. Idk weird thought but I feel that's wat it is.

So hear me out I believe this song is about a couple who brings a third person Into their relationship. The third person being her, she believed theyd be together forever she says in the song " your goin off with her and I wish I was" meaning she loved them both equally. In time the couple realizes that it isnt realistic, that this relationship is not socially acceptable so they leave her. Now's she stuck, thinking of them, and she feels the pain for how easily they left her and threw her to the side. She sings about that feeling in being just another body, " the girl you once knew". In the original audio to the song you hear 3 minutes and 15 seconds of silence, then she starts to sing " no thanks, no more, no love. I'm done I've had enough" I think that silence represents..well her silence, she's unable to speak of the relationship they had and it eats her up inside beIN unable to release this pain. Then finally she does it, no longer caring about the consequences she sings to them from afar. Telling them her feelings, how she understood the price, how she awaits them to come.back to her arms one day despite the pain they put her through. She sings to free herself from this silence but at the end of the day she still has a hope they'd take her back. Idk that's just a thought i had.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
