How does it feel, when everyone surrounds you?
How do you deal, Do crowds make you feel lonely?
What do you say?
When people come and try to pin you down?
Aquaintainces smile, but that's no understanding.
How after a while, you keep falling off the same mountain.
Try to explain it, but nothing really gets that high.
Steal away in the morning, love's already history to you
Just a habit you're forming, this body's desperate for something new
Just a matter of feeling.
This moment's madness sure to pass
And tears will dry as you're leaving
Who knows you might find something to last..
Emotion's a game , saved up for a rainy Monday
But you laugh just the same, 'cause it's been pouring on Sunday;
Call up your numbers and never let the zeros let you down.
How does it feel?
Is time to heavy to hold, whatever you decide for the moment is holy,
whenever you slow down to see life is passing by.

Steal away in the morning, love's already history to you
Just a habit you're forming, this body's desperate for something new
Just a matter of feeling.
This moment's madness sure to pass
And tears will dry as you're leaving
Who knows you might find something to last..

(You can..)
Steal away in the morning, love's already history to you
Just a habit you're forming, this body's desperate for something new
Just a matter of feeling.
This moment's madness sure to pass
And tears will dry as you're leaving
Who knows you might find something to last..

A matter of feeling..
A matter of feeling..
A matter of feeling..
A matter of feeling..

I have a different view to the others, I think the song is all about someone who desperately wants to be with someone - to find a partner. They want it so much that they feel somewhat alienated - even at parties where people try to "pin you down". By pinning you down they want to know "who the other half is"? They smile along even though you tell them you're still "just looking" (falling off the same mountain).

The person in the song (I call them "you") have started to mistake one night stands with love - "Steal away in the morning" (get up and go after a bit of rough and tumble, in the early morning light sort of thing) "Love's already history to you" (what seemed like love last night after a few drinks is actually nothing like love - it's only a few hours ago and it's history already. "It's a habit you're forming" - this is becoming the norm rather than the exception, the one night stands.

The line about "this body's desperate for something new" - means you think the next best thing is just around the corner and you keep trying (sleeping around) looking for it. "Tears will dry as you're leaving" - you'll get over it as quick as the other times, but "who knows, you might find something to last".

Some of Duran Duran's songs are impossible to interpret but this is a classic that begs interpretation - this is just mine. I spent many many hours listening to this one during my final school year (graduation year) exams. See what you think of my other interpretations on Duran's songs...

I don't care much for the tune but I like the lyrics. I think this is a reply to the question they kept getting asked, about whether they were just trying to gain credibility or not. And I think the song is saying that no, they're not seeking credibility, it's just what they need to do.

I love the way this song makes me feel. The last few months have been rough for me and it's almost as if these lyrics are aimed directly at me, telling me "it's gonna turn out ok"

This song is about the pressures of a relationship ending. How it feels when you begin to cheat because you are in a rut, and crave the energy of new relationships. It's also about the hangups over the financial fall out. In the end...your tears run dry and live goes on.

    My Interpretation

I think its about a famous person who is trying not to feel lonely by medicating him self with addictive stuff, (drugs, sex ect.) But if he stops himself feeling lonely, he's also stopping himself from feeling anything else that's real.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
