along the avenue of hope
the footsteps falter, fingers grope
and the days, stretch out beneath the sun

no-one's born, no-one dies,
no-one loves, so no-one cries
and we wait to see just what we will become

don't let me falter, don't let me ride
don't let the earth in me subside
let me see just who i will become

you're like the clouds in my home town
you just grow fat, and hang around
and your days, stretch out beneath the sun

no-one's born, no-one dies,
no-one loves, so no-one cries
and we wait to see just what we will become

don't let me borrow, don't let me bring
don't let me wallow, don't make me sing
let me see just who i will become

don't let me falter, don't let me hide
don't let someone else decide
just who or what i will become

don't make 'em borrow, don't make 'em bring
don't let them wallow, don't let them sing
let them stretch out beneath the sun

Living in hope leads to apathy and inaction. It has one of my all time favourite lines 'you're like the clouds in my home town you just grow fat, and hang around'

It's quite depressing really... it's like the people who live on the Avenue of Hope never age, they're trapped in an immortal everlasting (boring) lifestyle.

amazing ending to an amazing movie. so many references in the lyrics alone. obviously not something they had in mind when writing the song, but it must have been in the mind of danny boyle when choosing the music for sunshine.

I tend to disagree with rqallison when he/she says "Living in hope leads to apathy and inaction. "

It depends on what you do with your life, and maybe what you hope for.

You can live in hope for a healthier humanity, for a day where love is considered more important than money and material gain. And you can also do something about it by choosing personally to not put those things before love, and to act in service to others in need. I think it is good to hope, and a lack of hope is a lot more likely to lean to apathy and inaction.

But... it may be that rqallison meant something slightly different to what he actually said. You could live in hope for someone else (like maybe the government) to make the changes we need to see, which could lead you to do nothing about it on a personal level.

Anyway I haven't actually heard the song, but I like the I Am Kloot songs that I have heard. The only downside is I wish they would say something more meaningful (which is why this song's potentially meaningful song title attracted me to read the lyrics).

Does anyone know of an I Am Kloot song that has a message of some sort? or of another good band with a message? Thanks

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
