"Loveless Love" as written by and B. Million G. Mercer....
You made your offer
A little too soon
It's not the first time it's happened
In a moment you said

You don't want to know me
It's seems as though that's never done
What I'm seeing as hopeless
You're seeing as won

The story asking
Could we be together tonight
I was raised by a different standard
And it wouldn't seem right

It doesn't seem important
I'd like to know what matters then
As it happened they already did
I don't remember it

Loveless love
Is not my plan
Loveless love
Said it isn't romance

Loveless love
You think it's cool, I think it stinks
Loveless love
You don't care what I think

Well nobody's perfect
It's not the way you were raised to behave
Try to understand
That's not the way to be

My InterpretationFun song to dance to and pretty straight forward in its lyrics. Either the narrator is not here for casual meaningless sex or whoever they're asking isn't.

    "Could we be together tonight?
I was raised by a different standards,
    And it wouldn't seem right!...
    Loveless love
You think it's cool, I think it stinks
    Loveless love
You don't care what I think."

My InterpretationA fantastic song that points out the hypocrisy and meaninglessness of the hookup culture. "You don't want to know me" is a huge indictment of that selfish, instant gratification construct peddled by those who manipulate the young. It is indeed a "loveless love", one that disrespects and belittles the other person. The song finishes by reminding the other person that "It's not the way you were raised to behave / Try to understand / That's not the way to be." Kudos to The Feelies for the courage to push back on this destructive meme.
