You left it, I sent it
I want it back
You left it, I sent it
I want it back

If I had you here, I'd clip your wings
Snap you up and leave you sprawling on my pin
This plan of mine is oh so very lame
Can't you see the grass is greener where it rains

You left, I died
I went and you cried
You came, I think
But I never really know
I've served my time
I've watched you climb
The wrong incline
But what do I know

Accept it, don't let it
Turn the screw
Accept it, and let it
Scream back at you

Now this applies both equally to you and I
The only thing we share
Is the same sky
These empty metaphors
They're all in vain
Like can't you see the grass is greener where it rains

You left, I died
I went and you cried
You came, I think
But I never really know
I've served my time
I've watched you climb
The wrong incline
But what do I know
But what do I know

In the garden Snake was a charmin'
Eve said let's give it a try
Now lead us not into temptation
But no matter how hard I try
When in the garden snake is a charmin'
Eve says let's give it a try
Eve is the apple of my eye

Eve is the apple of my eye

Eve is the apple

And I lie behind you
And I cradle you in the palm of me
And I pat your hair down
I think will we sink or swim?
'Cause we could do either or none

It's about two people who love each other but are either in a long distance relationship or an extra marital affair. :)

"sharing under the same sky" could be about a distant lover - yearning to be with that girl. And if she were there with him he'd "clip her wing and set her sprawling on his pin" could mean, once she gets to him, he will never let him go and he's hinting he'll make love to her, show her how much he loves her...and when he says "grass is always greener when it rains" could mean, isn't it better when we're together?

Eve here obviously have wronged the guy but it shows that the guy loves her dearly. They went through a break-up but despite everything they went through, he wants her back...Thus, "Eve, the apple of my eye"...He knows, he's aware of her mistakes but he can see nothing because, he loves her...

    aaaawwww...

so much for dissecting this song...i love it and the sexual undertone to this song...

    definitely for make-out sesh. :)

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Punchline

Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
