Miss America Lyrics
Her secret's safe with me
I know her wicked ways
The parts you never see
You'll be my Supermodel
Although you have a reputation
Can I afford
To move above my station?
I'm not the only heart you've conquered.
But boy can she be cruel
I know how tall she is
Without her platform shoes
You'll be my Supermodel
Although at times it might seem awkward
Don't run away
Oh don't you recognize me?
I'm not the only heart you've conquered.
When she was fleecing me
And she know I understand
That she needs to be free
And sometimes she does too
And sometimes I think of her
When she is fucking you
Siempre Confiado en ti
I love America
Porque me trates asi?
You'll be my Supermodel
Although you pants are 'round your ankles
And when you're down
I'll be your Dirty Harry
It will be just like in the movies.
You'll be my Supermodel
Although at time it might seem awkward
Don't look away
I'll be your teenage fanclub
I'm not the only heart you've conquered.

Another Byrne classic, this song is at once prescient and ironic; good luck in "America"!!

This song is completely brilliant! And I agree incredibly patriotic.
I think he's talking about the superficial love many Americans feel for their country. As if she can do no wrong. But he knows her, and loves her despite all her faults.
And he misses her. Miss America.
LOVE it!

i think tigermoon has the best grasp on the song. It is not just a song about loving America inspite of its faults. All the superficial and decadent imagery depicts the nature of america's faults as david byrne sees them.

I'm not sure it's that patriotic. Basically, as I see it, the song mocks America while it acknowledges that Byrne himself also a part of and a product of American culture. The song doesn't condemn or condone the US, so much as it provides a critique of our country and how much DB is a part of it. Also, the music video is hilarious (love DB in the Adidas sweatsuit)
@LucklessPedestrian He was likely saying "I miss America from years ago before the world became so complex". He calls the song "Miss America" to invite the listener to listen to the lyrics and realize that, within the song, he's referring to the U.S. as a female..."she".

Does anybody else think this song may be about a drag queen?
The video is filled with kinky imagery, and seems to be set in a sex club.
Love it.

for me, this in an incredibly patriotic song. david byrne is basically saying that even though America and it's ideals are not good all the time, people should not give up on it. he knows America is not perfect, but he does know it can be pretty good in comparison to anything else.
