"I" as written by and John S Hurt....
Well lordy I shall not be, I shall not be moved
I shall not be, I shall not be moved
Just like a tree that's growin' in the meadow (down by the water)
I shall not be moved

I'm on my way to glory land and I shall not be moved
On my way to glory land I will not be moved
I'm like a tree that's planted by the water
I shall not be moved

I shall not be, I shall not be moved
I shall not be, I shall not be moved
Just like a tree that's planted by the water
I shall not be moved

I shall not be, I shall not be moved
I shall not be, I shall not be moved
Just like a tree that's planted by the water
I shall not be moved

Well I'm on my way to glory land and I shall not be moved
On my way to glory land I shall not be moved
I'm like a tree that's planted by the water
I shall not be moved

Oh well
I shall not be, I shall not be moved
I shall not be, I shall not be moved
Just like a tree that's planted by the water
I shall not be moved

On this rock of ages, I shall not be moved
On this rock of ages, I shall not be moved
Just like a tree that's planted by the water
I shall not be moved

Glory, glory, glory hallelujah, I shall not be moved
Glory hallelujah, I shall not be moved
Just like a tree that's planted by the water
I shall not be moved

General Commenti think this song is saying how we try to occupy ourselves throughout our lives to escape the grim truth that "we're basically alone" in this life, emphasized by this song's title - "I"

General Commentthewinepress, that's extremely depressing but I think you've hit it dead on.

Kinda sad if you think about it =^(

General CommentThis is a really good, hardcore distillation of Imitosis.

General CommentCheck out youtube for Sesame Street's "We All Live In a Capital I" to see the inspiration for this song. When Sesame Street declined to allow Mr. Bird use of the lyrics, he changed it up to "we're all basically alone" and developed the haunting "Imitosis."
