"Spell" as written by and Martyn Casey Jim Sclavunos....
I put a spell on you because you're mine
You better stop the things that you do
I ain't lyin', no, I ain't lyin'
I just can't stand it babe
The way you're always runnin' 'round
I just can't stand it, the way you always put me down
I put a spell on you because you're mine

I put a spell on you because you're mine
You better stop the things that you do
I ain't lyin', no, I ain't lyin'
I just can't stand it babe
The way you're always runnin' 'round
I just can't stand it, the way you always put me down
I put a spell on you because you're mine
I put a spell on you. I put a spell on you
I put a spell on you. I put a spell on you

The Lyrics are so poetic and evoquing that I guess one can see so many meanings in this song
I think it is about projecting ur ideals into a person, then loving the concept of that person .. and because it is all made up, u cant reason urself out of it .. spell sums it up ..
This verse made me think so

" I have no abiding memory
    No awakening, no flaming dart
    No word of consolation
    No arrow through my heart
    Only a feeble notion
    A glimmer from afar
That I cling to with my fingers
As we go spinning wildly through the stars "

The strings right after the chorus make my heart ache ( whatever that means ) ...

    General CommentWell picked verse loobiieloo.
    I think it's a classic Cave version of the Love Song: no classical view of love (no flaming dart);
with the desperation (cling to with my fingers) but still with the kind-of "head-over-heels" imagery - great
