All of my years spent are running around, running around
All of my weeks spent are crashing around, crashing around
Al of my years spent are waking around, waking around
All of my ? is blotting her out, it's blotting her out
And you feel, and you feel, and you feel
Emily
Emily, Emily, Emily
And you never really had to know
And you never really had to know girl
I mean you never really lost the part, ohh
I mean you never really lost the part
I mean you never really lost the part, ohh
I mean you never really lost the part, ohh
to me this song is about that moment you find out - that someone loves you and that at that moment it is lost. It is kind of like losing your beauty as soon as you look in the mirror. Ever loved someone and then when they find out, everything changes- "You never really had to know." I always find this to be the case so if i really love someone i will never let them find out. The simplicity of the lyrics with the bare music is wonderful- the repetition of the lyrics is similar to the process of trying to "blot" someone out yet all you can do is remember everything. Also when he just says, "and you feel.." and he drags out the feel it's as if he can't feel or maybe that he feels everything at once. It is so emotionally drained, and the fact that the music is just mellow adds to that numbing affect. This song puts me in a trance. I often think that the songs i listen to somehow shape my life- after i realized this i started listening to more upbeat tunes. But i still like to go back from time to time and listen to this song.
i like this song. my name is emily.
Where did this song come from? Not on "Hopes and fears". What about the other songs listed that aren't there...where can we get them or hear them?
songs such as Allemande and Something in Me Was Dying can be found on the singles released by Keane!!! =D
I think emily is someone really close to the singer. someone he used to love. he might have done something which he doesnt want to tell emily.Well you never really had to know And you never really had to know And you never really had to know girl
wooah. i soo agree with you, eerieemily. i've had that experience, when i told the guy that i'm currently crazy about, how i felt, and all he said was that he was flattered..and then i regretted ever telling him at all, because it didn't change anything, yet it changed everything. he didn't really have to find out the way i felt. and i think "you never really lost the part" means that even though things have changed, he still cares for her, and she hasn't lost the 'part'.
The way he says Emily is so eerie. It sounds like he's regretting saying something, or regretting losing her. I don't know. I hear a lot of desperation in this song... :c
I think that he cheated on her. He's looking back on the relationship after it has ended and he's feeling lost... just crashing around. He misses Emily, who he may have cheated on and she found out. He thinks she may as well have never known because he never cared for the other person "I mean you never really lost the part." the part= love of his life.
maybe it means he was in love with this girl emily and thought that the way he acted would let her know and that she should have never doubted it, but something happened maybe he messed up and now he;s just trying to forget her because it hurts him to think about her?
what does he meane by saying
and you feel ??
