The ocean floor is hidden
From your viewing lens
A depth perception
Languished in the night
All my life,I’ve been
Sewing the wounds
But the seeds sprout
A lachrymal cloud

Niño preparate
Que vas sufrir
Niño preparate
Salte veneno
Niño preparate
Salte de aqui
Niño preparate
Labios temblando
Niño preparate
Salte veneno
Niño preparate
Salte de aqui
Niño preparate
Brincan los cuerpos
Vas a sufrir

My nails peel back
When the taxidermist ruined
Goose stepped the freckling impatience
All the brittle tombs
Five hundred little q’s
I’m splitting hairs to
Match the faces

All night long I’ll hunt for you
Let me show you what I mean
Sangre
Sonando
De rabia naci

Now this train don’t lie
An abortion that survived
A lineage of
Bastard mastacation
All the severed proof
Talons scratch my suite
These are the feathers
That replace them

All night I’ll hunt for you
Let me show you what I mean
Sangre
Sonando
De rabia nací

Who do you trust
Will they feed us the womb
Chrome the fetal mirage
Will they feed us the womb

I found the remnants
Of a crescent fang
It cleaned my wing
Down to the bone
Umbilical syllables
Left to decode
There was no cradle
I can taste it
Come on now

All night I’ll hunt for you
Let me show you what I mean
Sangre
Sonando
De rabia naci

Who do you trust?
Will they feed us the womb
Chrome the fetal mirage
Will they feed us the womb

Bring me this plague
She took a drink
Those nicotine stains
On his every word
My scavenger quilt
Will only hide the truth

Bring me
Bring me this plague

I count the days to find
What was left behind
Only these names I clutch
Will lead me to my home
Somehow this river marks
A wrinkle hand in mine
And everyday that parts
The water into two
Mothers and feathers start
To drown the living proof
I can’t remember these lakes of blood
Wrapped in a blanket
There sweats a cut

Who do you trust?
Will they feed us the womb
Chrome the fetal mirage
Will they feed us the womb

This song, along with their whole new album, is absolutely amazing. Recently, the band had an interview that sort of explains this whole album.

"The story is inspired by a diary that Jeremy found in the backseat of a car while working as a repo man," singer/lyricist Bixler-Zavala. "He discovered he had a lot in common with its author. He kept it and let us in on it. The diary told of the author being adopted and looking for his real parents. The names of each song are named after people in the diary. Each person he meets sort of points him in the direction of his biological parents.

This definitely explains the last verse better, but otherwise, it is difficult to interpret these lyrics. Still, an amazing song.

In the end of the song, they have some sort of recording on the side of the road. You can hear cars passing by. And you can also hear kids playing. At one point, some female says "stop playing that game" and another point you hear, "you guys get out here right now"

I hear Omar Rodriguez (the band's guitarist/writer/producer) on some San Diego station almost a year ago and he explained what the band name meaning was. He said that he was very much into Roman mythology and Mars is the god of war, and some screen play writer or something (I forgot the name) used the word 'volta' as 'contridiction'. So he said, The Mars (roman god of war) Volta (a contridiction) had the meaning of "The Peace Bringers" So there you go :). Band meaning done.

On the topic of the band name (just to throw another thought into the process), people should remember or learn that the "volta" is also the point in a poem (usually a sonnet) where the mood changes. For example, in many Shakespearian sonnets he'll talk about the love of a woman and then in the last two lines talk about how she leaves. Those lines are the Volta.

I think that could be a factor in the name as well.

this song is so ridiculous. someone said before that listening to it was a 'privelege' and they were dead fucking on. i had listened to some tmv before, mostly when i was stoned, and it rocked my world, but i listened to cygnus for the first time when frances first came out, i flipped shit. the entire album is mind-blowing, the themes and the story behind it is epic, and cygnus is definitely my favorite track. listening to it takes me to these epic places. ive never been on acid, but i imagine its a lot like listening to this bad ass song

Huh, never noticed the slow jams part of this song before and leading into the verse "I count the days to find, what was left behind" is lifted directly from Drunkship of Lanterns as heard on the Live EP.

Oh, and this song poops on my chest. In the good way.

First off can anybody translate the spanish? I'm dumb and not bi-lingual. Second the only difference that I got was in the third verse and that was "Five Hundred Little Cumes" as in "Five Hundred People Watching" but maybe I'm wrong. Cause to me it sounds like an abortion is either being performed or has been by the end of the song, but something isn't right and it's still alive, hense "an abortion that survived" and "will they feed us the womb". And does anybody else have a opinion or answer to all the smoking references throughout the album? "Those nicotine stains" and "A wrinkle hand in mine" cause when people smoke they get that drawstring bag look around the mouth and what not. And as for nicotine stains obviously that's referring to the smoker's hands, clothes, teeth, hair, etc. I'd love to hear anybody else's opinion on all of this. Thanks

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
