Give Me Back My Dreams Lyrics
I've been counting these sheeps
Since I can't remember when,
Give me back my sleep
I'll be dreaming of you till I wake up crying again
I have lain awake through the longest hours
Wondering whether to cry or scream,
You can take my heart
It was always yours,
But give me back my dreams
When the clock strikes four, I could sell my soul just to hear my telephone ring
The way we used to talk for hours,
You don't have to talk at all,
but may I send you flowers?

I pretty much listened to this song nonstop when my last boyfriend broke up with me. It basically says everything I was feeling at that time.

This song is devastating. Beautiful.

Stephin Merritt is perfect for heartbreak, and I got it bad. I would sell my soul just to hear my telephone ring. The part that really gets me, though, is: "You don't have to talk to me, the way we used to talk for hours/We don't have to talk at, by may I send you flowers?" Just knowing that it'll never be the same, talking for hours, being happy in that moment. Ah.

Such a great album. It manages to be incredibly moving, ironic, and completely cheesy at the same time. Even the title of the album and band is kind of a joke, if you think about it. It's like they tried to pick the hardest words to pronounce if you have a lisp. The 6ths, Hyacinths, Thistles. Which is kind of funny because Stephin Merritt is gay, and the worst nightmare for a gay guy (believe me I know) is having your lisp made fun of. Many layers of meaning in this album.
