The sunlight's making me feel paranoid
I look outside and see the world at war
The people walk to work like they're alone
I sit in silence staring at the phone

And it helps me breathe, And it helps me see

I cover up my eyes to block the light
I cover up my eyes and try to fight, the fall

And it helps, When I come down, And it helps

The sunlight's making me feel paranoid
I look outside and see the world at war
The people laugh and play like they're alone
They're watching us while we sleep in our homes
I never, I never meant to shut you out
All I know and all I need is you
I never, I never meant to cause alarm
All I know and all I need and all I got is gonna bleed

It helps, when I come down, It helps, when I come down

It helps me breathe, When I come down
Annie
The smell of the ocean on her skin
The rags of her dress blowing in the wind
A chorus of angels on the boardwalk
They know what you did in the dark

Chorus

I never meant to hurt you Annie
Leave you standing with the gun
Come and play with me little Annie
Lose yourself, lose yourself

I lay her back on the cold sand
And wipe the blood from her hand
I fix her hair and kiss her chest
The secrets die in her breathe

Chorus

I never meant to hurt you Annie
Leave you standing with the gun
Come and play with me little Annie
Lose yourself, lose yourself

Oh no, her hands are cold
Oh no, I played with her soul
All night again
I'm alone LOVE
I want the girl all dressed in white
She turns and says hello
She changes colors like a bird
I grab her wings and fly away
She takes me high and leaves me there
I never want that down

Chorus

Love, It's a beautiful place, It's a beautiful taste
Where I am now, where I am now, And I belong

The gentle high is all to blame
I cried for seven days
I feel myself losing control
To all the voices in my soul
There is the girl in white again
I need the sugar from her hand

Chorus

Love, It's a beautiful place, It's a beautiful taste
Where I am now, where I am now, And I belong

And it's such a wonderful way, We're making love right now
And it's such a wonderful way, you feel me up inside

Chorus

Love, It's a beautiful place, It's a beautiful taste
Where I am now, where I am now, And I belong ESTER
Ester why do you look all blue
What did I say to you to make you feel all blue
Ester when you walk in the room
Everybody turns to look at you

Chorus

And that night when I called you
I was being young
And the way I tried to win you
I was being young, I was being young

Ester why can't you talk to me
Why can't you look at me
Why can't sit with me
Ester with your lips all full
With your heart all full, is there room for two

Chorus

And that night when I called you
I was being young
And the way I tried to win you
I was being young, I was being young

I think he's talking about the war...but maybe isolation in general...he shut himself out from the world and the person he loves...and it took him a while to realize that he really needed that person...

this is an awesome song. i think is one of my favourites ever. is about someone who doesn't like people that much he likes to be in his house but there's a girl who makes him feel good

i liked your comments about this song and i agree that this song is GREAT, pretty lyrics (simply and yet pretty!), good beat, great music. Anyway, I think this song is about someone who is afraid of the world... "The sunlights making me feel paranoid I look outside and see the world at war The people laugh and play like they're alone They're watching us while we sleep in our home" he doesn't understand it so he isolates himself and shuts himself away but while doing so he also shuts out the one person he cares about Also, he keeps himself in his own little world (away from society) but he needs that girl he shut out so without her HIS own world is incomplete.

    ...yeah cute song =)

oh yes i forgot to mention (although i did imply it) he's sort of an outcast (at least in the song) he doesn't fit in society. at least in the sense that he doesn't feel he belongs in that type of society. ...this sort of reminds me of The Catcher In The Rye...

Whats up with the world!? that's what diego is saying. The first 4 lines set the stage, then its about how to shout out and think positive about it.

"I cover up my eyes and block the light" (look away from the crap) "I cover up my eyes and try not to fight the fall" (cover up and avoid the negativity)

"The people laugh and play like they're alone" (everyone that succumbs to the boring lifestyle they follow everyday, laugh at us and try to sway us to join in) "They're watching us while we sleep in our home" (they watch us as we enjoy ourselves while we're in our nirvana)

"all I need is you...no I never meant to cause alarm...and all I've got is gonna bleed" (is a verse to show your dedication to your passion)

"come down...helps me breathe" (just bursting out and singing about your fidelity, just gives such a sigh of relief to know thats who you are, in a positive)

well. that's my take on it^^. i love to lite a cigarette staring at the stars with this tune on the ipod

My Sharpest observation would not be thus...The fellow in this song can not see in the light. A not terribly bright interpretation would be thus... he is that he is blind because he he doesn't have pupils or can not blink. And finally, it would be a most terribly dim interpretation if I said that this person would benifit from a pair of sunglasses.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
