Here we are
What is left of a husband and a wife with four good kids
Who have a way of gettin on with their lives
And I'm not old but I'm getting a whole lot older every day
It's too late to keep from goin' crazy
I've got to get away
The reasons that I can't stay, don't have a thing to do with being in love
And I understand that lovin' a man shouldn't have to be this rough
And you ain't the only one who feels like this world's left you far behind
I don't know why you gotta be angry all the time
Our boys are strong now, the spittin' image of you when you were young
I hope someday they can see past what you have become
I remember every time I said I'd never leave
But what I can't live with is memories of the way you used to be
The reasons that I can't stay, don't have a thing to do with being in love
I understand that lovin a man shouldn't have to be this rough
You ain't the only one who feels like this world's left you far behind
I don't know why you gotta be angry all the time
Twenty years, have came and went, since I walked out of your door
I never quite made it back, to the one I was before
And God it hurts me to think of you
For the light in your eyes was gone
And sometimes I don't know why this old world can't leave well enough alone
The reasons that I can't stay, don't have a thing to do with being in love
And I understand that lovin, a man shouldn't have to be this rough
You ain't the only one who feels like this world's left you far behind
I don't know why you gotta be angry all the time

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
I Can't Go To Sleep

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
Faith Hill harrmonizes with Tim on this awesome song!
Why is it that the people who post these lyrics never can seem to type nor spell correctly? I mean, seriously... Am I the only one who notices when somebody didn't pass third grade?
@Figure8 Well, well Mr. Professor. I have another question for you. Why do you have to be such a dick?
Great song. Most people who love country music, therefore, love sad songs. This one is up there in terms of its degrees of sadness and regret and all that. I'm pretty sure that Bruce Robinson wrote it. If you like it, you should listen to other Bruce Robinson songs like "Travelin' Soldier," "Wrapped," "End Like That," etc. He's a great singer and songwriter. Tim McGraw does a great job of singing this deep tune. Like Conway Twitty, Tim McGraw seems to be a song's best friend.
sometimes i dont know why this old world cant leave well enough alone.
i love that line.
the song is about the woman. its easier to understand when they sing it live bc they add kinks to it. i think it is a beatuiful song.
great song. self explainitory
Makes me think of my parents :(
sometimes i dont know why this old world cant leave well enough alone.
i love that line.
I have had this ongoing argument with my husband and my sister. I think the "angry" person is the man. They think it's the woman. I tell them the song says "the spittin image of you when you were young." "You," meaning the man. So "you", the "angry" one is the man. Right???
Yes, especially when he says I hope they can see past what "you" have become! obviously he's the one struggling he hopes they don't turn out like him! Although, it could also be referring to the wife in some people's eye especially if this is there situation. I think the song was wrote that way! Beautiful song one of my favorites!
I always thought it was the woman but I think that may be just because it's Tim singing it, I never really read into the song :p
I have always wondered if it is the woman or the man but I guess if you think about it it doesn't matter. I thought it was the husband based on the comment of spitting image of you when you were young, but maybe that's just my perception since Tim was singing it and I relate it to my own experience.
@lisa2522 I heard an interview with Tim McGraw on the radio say it is from the perspective of the woman. So yes the “ angry” person is the man. When people told me it was the woman I would bring up that line as well.
this song was originally supposed to be recorded by faith hill... its a great song
