There it started
it came apart, it
Broke up into pieces and
There was a chance I missed it
Icaristic
So I put myself into your hands

Cause you're not just anyone
You're a ladder to the sun
Oh you're not just anyone
You're a ladder to the sun

I could run my courses
With opposing forces
You said all men are mortals , and
So if you want me then you can have me
Take me, oh baby grab me
Yes if you want me then you can have me

Cause you're not just anyone
You're a ladder to the sun
Oh you're not just anyone
You're a ladder to the sun

Oh now boy what you been and done
Set a course for a silver sun
Oh now boy what you been and done

I had it all and I risked it
A chance and I missed it
I had it all and I risked it on
I risked it on...

Oh I risked it on
A ladder to the
A Ladder to the sun
A ladder to the
A ladder to the sun

I had it all and I risked it on
A ladder to the
A ladder to the sun
A ladder to the
A ladder to the sun
A ladder to the
A ladder to the sun
I had it all and I risked it all

This song needs more comments, as it is one of my favorite songs by Coldplay. The only version I found is a recording from a concert, it isn't very clear compared to songs you'll find on an album (Yes, it was downloaded, I'm awaiting an album release). Still, if you ever get a chance to listen to this song, by all means check it out, it's really, REALLY good.

This is in my top three Coldplay songs along with Fix You and Politik. I found it interesting that they mention a ladder to the sun in Talk:

So you take a picture of something you see In the future where will I be? You can climb a ladder up to the sun Or a write a song nobody has sung or do Something that’s never been done, do Something that’s never been done

I wonder if there's a connection between the two songs.

"I can run my courses Opposing forces And oh man I just..."

    Has to be:

"I can run my courses and Opposing forces And oh man are just mortals"

Such a good way to describe the love between man and woman. I also can see in my life that the girl of my dreams is a ladder to the sun... to daylight. light and love. Back to the source.

This should have been on X & Y - Talk wasn't nearly as good as this piece. I'd say it's one of my all-time favorite coldplay songs.

I agree with most of you, it is one of their best, and should have booted off one of the more dull songs off X&Y. This song is so pure and honest...it really captures what it's like (to me) to be so thankful and devoted to a person you're in love with. I always thought it was 'Oh don't take me, baby, grab me.' But I don't think it is...it might be '\oh no take me'...

Tis interesting that this beautiful imagery of being a ladder to the sun infers that they're going to burn you to a crisp.
I have no doubt its said in a loving way, but yeah, just a thought.

When he's saying "I had it all and I risked it all".... could that be inferring he risked everything good he already had (friendship or such that he had with this woman) to further their relationship? That he risked that pain in being burnt by soemthing so bright and wonderful, and also losing their friendship/what they had before?

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
