This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.
You're everywhere and nowhere baby, that's where you're at
Going down a bumpy hillside, in your hippy hat
Flying across the country, and getting fat
Saying everything is groovy, when your tires are flat
And it's high ho silver lining, anywhere you go now baby
I see your sun is shining
But I won't make a fuss, though it's obvious
Flies are in your pea soup baby, they're waving at me
Anything you want is yours now, only nothing's for free
Lies are gonna get you someday, just wait and see
So open up your beach umbrella, while you're watching TV
And it's high ho silver lining, anywhere you go now baby
I see your sun is shining
But I won't make a fuss, though it's obvious
And it's high ho silver lining, anywhere you go now baby
I see your sun is shining
But I won't make a fuss, though it's obvious
And it's high ho silver lining, anywhere you go now baby
I see your sun is shining
But I won't make a fuss, though it's obvious
And it's high ho silver lining, anywhere you go now baby
I see your sun is shining
But I won't make a fuss, though it's obvious

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
Magical

Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
As has been stated elsewhere,#Hi_Ho_Silver_Lining criticises hippy culture. Specifically the optimism expressed by feeling that "everything is groovy" in denial of the fact that your "tyres are flat". The feeling that the sun is always shining means that one never takes a realistic opinion about anything, or that one is"everywhere and nowhere" at the same time. The writer warns that reality, not just "getting fat", and flies in "your pea soup", but "lies" are going to get you someday, and advises that although you may have a roof today under which to watch TV, you had "better open up your beach umbrella" because you don't know how quickly things can change.
This song is written by Scott English and Larry Weiss, not Jeff Beck, the message in this song is somewhat same as the message in Joe South's ;Games People Play.'
I do not understand why more people havnt commented. He is so underated, he is a great guitairst and helped create metal. This is an extremely catchy song but someone please change wolverhampton. thts just annyoing
wolverhampton?
just saw motd. got it
I've no idea what it means, but the title surely refers to the TV series "The Lone Ranger", in which the title character used the phrase "Hi Ho Silver!" to address his horse (named Silver). The series would have been shown at the time Beck was growing up.
I think it's against hippy movement, talking about their commonplaces mixed to a "Lone Ranger" context.
Because they are always sayin "everything is groovy" and "everything is yours now" and Jeff says "but only nothing's for free" and "lies are gonna get you some day" so "get your beach umbrella while your watching TV" !
I've just reread my comment and the other contributions. The Lone Ranger reference is a joke about his horse being called Silver. What I should have pointed out ("though it's obvious") is that the saying " every cloud has a silver lining" is a typical statement from an optimist, i.e. hippie.
