When he was seeing her you could see he had his doubts
And now he's missing her because he knows he's missing out
And now it's haunting him, her memory's like a ghost
And he's so terrified 'cause no one else even comes close

He's the guy that you should feel sorry for
He had the world but he thought that he wanted more
I owe it all to the mistake he made back then
I owe it all to my girl's ex-boyfriend

So then along comes me, this undeserving mess (undeserving mess)
Who would believe my life would be so blessed? (Life would be so blessed)
Two years ago when he left all that debris (left all that debris)
Who would have known he would leave everything I need?

He's the guy that you should feel sorry for
He had the world but he thought that he wanted more
I owe it all to the mistake he made back then
I owe it all to my girl's ex-boyfriend

If it wasn't for him
I would still be searching
If it wasn't for him
I wouldn't know my best friend
If it wasn't for him
He would be able to see that
If it wasn't for him he'd be as happy as me

When she and I settle down you can bet
That he is gonna have to settle for less
He's someone I would hate to be
I got the girl and he's left with just a memory

He's the guy that you should feel sorry for
He had the world but he thought that he wanted more
I owe it all to the mistake he made back then
I owe it all to my girl's ex-boyfriend

If it wasn't for him
I would still be searching
If it wasn't for him
I wouldn't know my best friend
If it wasn't for him
He would be able to see that
If it wasn't for him he'd be as happy as me

I think the lyrics are pretty self-explanatory, but I just wanted to say that I think this is one of the sweetest songs I've ever heard.

@jollyradar: The submitted lyrics were the official ones that Matt Thiessen posted at the RK forum via another member. Of course, not all official lyrics are correct.

has anyone even commented the song yet?......no.......well i'll take the time then. This song's funny but with a serious side. I like that. Relient K has really grown up.

in the CD booklet, it says debris.

I wonder if the song isn't really from another person's point of view, where Matt is the "someone I would hate to be." He describes the feelings that the unlucky guy would feel pretty in-depth. Not to mention that the one most prevalent theme on the CD is regretting mistakes, and this would fit in nicely.

I'm not much a fan of this genre, but this song and some other Relient K songs are rather good. It seems Matt is basically telling the listener a story, and anyone is able to figure out what he's singing about. It's kind of an "in-your-face" song to his girl's ex-boyfriend.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
