Me, I’m getting better everyday
That’s what I said
Don’t believe what you’ve heard

It’s not like I want to be king
But I can’t help myself
It’s just that I am

Sorry, but i found someone new
To spend time
Instead on you, i spend it with me

You see, I’ve been around the world
I’ve seen so many things
Why am I talking to you?

Why do you hide, behind, somebody else
There’s one too many, in this room, and I think it’s you

As you can see, I’m a happy guy
Don’t need nothin’ to get me down
’Cause I’ll always have you

We are, are on a sinking ship
But I’d like to stay on board
And shoot the cannons at you

Why do you hide, behind, somebody else
There’s one too many, in this room, and I think it’s you

i don't quite think that jim wrote this in first person. it seems like the kind of song that he wrote about someone else. i read a review for this album where it mentioned that its all filled with anti-chicago angst. i feel jim's pain in a sense, only for my home city.

i actually think that he was writing this song in the first person. i dont claim to know much about jim and his life, but i do know that the first line in the second verse is 'it's not like i want to be gay' rather than 'king' and the rest of the song seems to make much more sense with that one small adjustment.

I think "King" fits pretty well if you hear the context of the lyrics, I think its about someone who's blaming his religion (a God, cause he is referring to one person) to have responsibility of all the bad things he has passed through. Keeps questioning "His" existence ("... Why do you hide behind somebody else?")and saying that himself is the only one who has power over him (referring himself as the "king"). Maybe not in that order, but that's what I think it is. I'm an atheist by the way (the kind of atheist that doesn't mean to offend any religion, I know and believe that religion is necessary in so many ways, even though I don't believe in any religion), but I'm not insulting religion, and i think that if that's the real meaning of the lyrics, Jim wouldn't be offending it neither (I actually think he's a very religious person), cause he is kind of judging people that misinterprets religion by judging it by how they feel.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
