I've found so many people like to smile a lot
Smile a lot 'cause they're having so much fun
Even when they know they're not

They'll wear some tiny little hat and they'll feel good
They'll feel good 'cause their hat is silly
And silly means that their time is good

I've learnt that indecision only brings no joy
So much joy to a fickle little world
That every night I do TV, flim myself CCTV
And there's panic on the street when it's not around

So we go to
All the traffic and children
Live far away
On the back of a big bus all the way to Bombay
When they go I am with them
But it won't be long
Godhopping for good times
When everything starts to go wrong

Powder cake they wear their makeup veils
Veils that hide them underneath such sweaty perfume smells

High-heeled they are always looking down
Down their confidence is struggling hard to get around

I've learnt that indecision only brings no joy
So much joy to a fickle little world
That every night I do TV, flim myself CCTV
And there's panic on the street when it's not around

So we go to
All the traffic and children
Live far away
On the back of a big bus all the way to Bombay
When they go I am with them
But it won't be long
Godhopping for good times
When everything starts to go wrong

the songs about life and society these days. but it also means nothing, in the sense thats its saying that all we do is nothing, we are wasting our lives but that theres not much better to do with it anyways.

"godhopping": refers to the people who try new religions to try to find something that will "renew" them. i think the party about "silly hats" may be about casual sex.

the part i found most intersting about this song is the chorus. read every other line and there you have the meaning, (or do you?):

    1. So we go to live far away, when they go i am with them, godhopping for good times.
    2. All the traffic and children on the back of a big bus all the way to Bombay, but it wont be long when everything starts to go wrong.

the chorus is the "answer" to the "problems with society"

    1. escape from it all, find yourself
    2. send all your troubles far away, but it wont be long until you realize that this wont be the cure.

there is no answer. that is what i think the songs about.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
