From the title i guessed the friend/lover had recently died and the singer was particulary close at time of death. And is just remember times together and how hard it was to live on alone. But alos looking in the our curiosity about the after life. Just a personal guess, Bloody good song tho
To me, it's about almost losing someone to addiction and not being able to do anything about it... They get better (for me it's eating disorders) because they got caught out but you don't because you left them....
