Wish enough, wise man'll tell you a lie
Window broke, torn up screens
Who'd have thought that you'd dream
Of a single tragic scene

I just want to sing a song with you
I just want to take it off of you

'Cause Blue Eyes
You are all that I need
'Cause Blue Eyes
You're the sweet to my mean

Fess it up, dot on the palm of your hand
I can help you to stand
Saved it up for this dance
Tell me all the things you can

I just want to sing a song with you
I just want to be the one that's true

'Cause Blue Eyes
You're the secret I keep
'Cause Blue Eyes

All the lights on and you are alive
But you can't point the way to your heart
So sublime, when the stars are aligned
But you don't know
You don't know the greatness you are

'Cause Blue Eyes
You are destiny's scene
'Cause Blue Eyes
I just want to be the one

I just want to sing a song with you
I just want to get it on with you

'Cause Blue Eyes
You're the secret I keep
'Cause Blue Eyes
I just want to sing a song with you

I just want to sing a song with you
I just want to sing a song with you

You don’t have to have “blue”eyes to love this song. The reference to blue eyes could easily be in reference to the underlying sadness in the subject’s eyes. (Haven’t you heard the old song don’t it make my brown eyes blue? Sorry, if that Crystal Gayle reference brings up long repressed memories.) It sounds as if ‘blues eyes” has under gone a serous trauma—catch the symbolism of the pierced hand. (And yes the reference to her stigmata does fit the lyrics.) She fails to see what the singer sees in her. Moreover, he knows that whatever happened in her past has closed her off to the rest of the world. He wants to share her secret so that: “all the lights [will be] on [her] and [she will be] alive.”

i absolutely ADORE this song... even though it drives my belief that no one loves brown eyes... i mean, think about how different the song would be if they'd sung it for "Brown Eyes..." it just wouldn't be as good... the color blue is often associated with freedom... in that blue appears as the primary color of life... the color blue is infinite, therefore, the pursuit of this color implies a search for eternity... for freedom... brown, however, implies crap... oh well...

This song embodies the meaning of true love. Cary Brothers is not only attracted to "Blue Eyes" sexually but also on an emotional and spiritual level. "I just want to sing a song with you," tells us that he wants to to more that just make love to Blue Eyes. While also telling Blue Eyes, "...you don't the greatness you are" tells us that he sees what Blue Eyes can't even see in her/himself. "Tell me all the things you can," tells the listener that there is more to his love of Blue Eyes than just physical attraction, his is in love with his/her mind. Finally, "You're the secret I keep," is telling Blue Eyes that the passion between the two something that he holds close to him; something that nobody else will share or understand.

Jenr404---I think they use Blue Eyes just as a a moniker or a substitute for the person's actual name.

Ahahaha, I have brown eyes. I guess there's crap in my eyes. Sweet. Anyone have any idea what this line means? "Fess it up, dot on the palm of your hand." All I can think of is that maybe it's alluding to the dot scars on the palms of Christ's hands... although I can't really see how that would fit into this song.
