What I'm standing on is sinking in
And I don't have a clue how to get off of it
But when I look at you there is hope
Cause I can see the sadness steal our eyes
You need to read between the lines
You could be the one to hold me when I want to cry

Underneath this smile my world is slowly caving in
All the while I'm hanging on 'cause that is all I know
Could you be the one to save me
From every bad habit that has helped me dig this hole I've been hiding down for miles
Underneath this smile, yeah

I have walked this Earth with broken bones
I've been keeping secrets under all these lies
But when you're around my defenses go
And you don't let me run away from you
You don't let me twist and turn the truth
It feels as if I'm naked while you're standing in the room

Underneath this smile my world is slowly caving in
All the while I'm hanging on instead of letting go
Could you be the one to save me
From every bad habit that has helped me dig this hole I've been hiding down for miles
Underneath this smile, oh hey
Underneath this smile, yeah, oh yeah, hey

Underneath this smile my world is slowly caving in
All the while I'm hanging on instead of letting go
Could you be the one to save me
From every bad habit that has helped me dig this hole Underneath this smile, oh

Oh, could you be the one to save me
From every bad habit that has helped me dig this hole I've been hiding down for miles
Underneath this, underneath this
Underneath this smile, oh
What I'm standing on is sinking in

Never heard this song, but the lyrics are very powerfuil. I've felt like that sometimes in my life. It's a horrible feeling, knowing that behind that smile on your face you're in so much pain, you don't know what to do anymore.

Its about acting super, like your life is so simple. But its not, and you just mask it all with a sweet smile.

It's a beautiful song. I think it means that although someone may SEEM happy, they could be dying inside. You can't always tell how someone is feeling by looking at them. Did Hilary write this? I love it.

really good song, amazingly done. its about her being really down and low (maybe from a past breakup) and having to fake her feelings but she meets someone who sort of brightens her world and shes wondering if they could be just what she needs to get out of her sad stage.

Pretty self explanatory I reckon. She's been hurt by something/someone bad but she doesn't want anyone to know how hurt she is so shes hiding her pain under a smile! Well thats pretty much what I reckon. Proper relate to this song sometimes! But at the moment I'm pretty darn happy! And showing it with a smile! :D :D xxxxx Love this song! LOVE HILARY DUFF! xxxxxxx

"Just smile... Only you feel the pain" ~ Hilary Lingae (me)

I feel like this so much. Because so many people are happy, so you can't help but smile and assure them that you're happy but when really inside, your world is about to die.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
